Database Reporting Specialist
To provide timely reporting of data for district departments and leaders and to assist users with retrieving and interpreting data from student information databases.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Creates and develops standard and custom reports based on the requirements of different departments and stakeholders.
- Establishes and maintains standardized guidelines and data dictionaries for the reporting of district data.
- Customizes reports to meet specific needs, including filtering, sorting, and grouping data, as necessary.
- Collaborates with various departments and stakeholders to understand their reporting needs and requirements.
- Communicates and presents data findings, reports, and insights effectively to inform and support decision-making at all levels within the school district.
- Analyzes and interprets data to identify trends, patterns, and insights relevant to the school district’s operations, performance, and objectives.
- Ensures compliance with data privacy and security policies, regulations, and best practices.
- Implements and maintains appropriate security measures and protocols to protect sensitive and confidential information within the databases.
- Accesses and retrieves data from multiple relational databases using SQL queries and reporting tools.
- Ensures data accuracy and integrity during extraction and retrieval processes.
- Provides training and support to district staff on how to access, retrieve, and interpret data from the databases.
- Identifies opportunities for process improvements, automation, and innovation to enhance the efficiency and effectiveness of data reporting and analysis.
- Stays updated on the latest trends, technologies, and best practices in database management, reporting tools, and data analytics to improve performance and capabilities.
- Supervises the day-to-day activities of assigned staff, including contracted vendors and service providers, and coordinates work assignments and schedules for the purpose of ensuring the provision of knowledgeable technical support and reliable network service for HCS students, staff, faculty, and other authorized users.
- Works with the Chief Strategy and Innovation Officer and the Chief Information Officer and other HCS staff to plan and implement new technology initiatives, where appropriate.
- Assists in the development of district policies and procedures governing technology, data issues, and system security and enforces those policies and procedures as needed.
- Reviews a variety of contractor documentation, including invoices, to confirm fulfillment of contract obligations and validate accuracy of services billed.
- Participates in professional developmental training opportunities as needed to perform their job duties.
- Develops, maintains, and improves operating procedures to increase the efficient and effective use of school resources.
- Works on-call for after-hour systems and database service issues, as needed.
- Performs other job-related duties as assigned.
Qualifications
A Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited college or university with a major in education, data analysis, information systems, or a closely-related field and a minimum of three (3) years of job-related work experience OR a minimum of five (5) years of strong technical experience directly related to data maintenance and analysis.
Physical Requirements
Requires work exerting up to twenty (20) pounds of force occasionally and/or up to ten (10) pounds of force frequently and/or a negligible amount of force frequently.
Terms of Employment
Twelve month year. Salary as recommended by the Superintendent and approved by the Board.
