The primary purpose of the Food Section is to ensure, through inspections and sample analysis, that food products are wholesome and properly labeled in order to preserve a safe food supply.
The position will primarily be responsible for:
(1) Evaluating inspection reports from Specialists.
(2) Identifying any violations of food laws, rules and regulations and determining regulatory action.
(3) Reviewing food product labels for compliance.
(4) Recommending to the supervisor an appropriate regulatory response.
(5) Drafting correspondence to industry detailing inspection and sample violations.
(6) Responding to phone inquiries regarding proposed business operations and consumer complaints.
(7) Responding to general inquiries from the public and regulated industry regarding food safety, inspections, and regulations, as well as inquiries from local, state, and federal agencies regarding programs and product jurisdiction.
(8) Assigning samples for analysis and reporting lab results to all stakeholders.
(9) Assisting in state and nationwide recalls if product adulteration or misbranding is detected.
(10) Participating in educational/outreach programs and representing the Department and Division at industry meetings to disseminate information regarding the regulatory programs.

Ability to analyze situations in order to determine appropriate regulatory response.

Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with other regulatory agencies (local, county, state, and federal) industry representatives and the general public.
You may qualify by an equivalent combination of education and experience, either through years of education or years of directly related experience, or a combination of both.
Bachelor's degree in chemistry, microbiology, food science, or a related curriculum from an appropriately accredited institution and one year of experience in food and/or dairy industry, research or compliance work; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
