POSITION SUMMARY
The efficient and timely processing of assigned patients from the conclusion of the admitting process to discharge and to provide a safe and efficient working environment for patients and physicians.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
- Arrive at work, on time for all scheduled workdays
- Demonstrate friendly and courteous manner in dealing with patients, physicians and co-workers as well as use of communication skills to minimize conflict and/or address difficult situations
- Perform basic Medical Assistant tasks, including but not limited to, vital signs, routine blood draws, and EKG’s and provides care that is consistent with LaSalle policies and external regulations and requirements
- Handle patient and employee information with appropriate sensitivity and safeguarding to ensure confidentiality and right to privacy
- Prepare patients for physician/practitioner exams
- Prepare and administer injections only as authorized by the physician
- Complete the nursing portion of the patient medical records using approved documentation standards
- Assist physicians/practitioners as requested for basic and emergency procedures
- Exhibit flexibility when work assignments need to be adjusted to meet the needs of our patients
- Ability to communicate effectively (hear, listen, speak) with patients, physicians and staff
- Maintain smooth patient flow by monitoring physician/practitioner work and anticipating their needs
- Maintain a clean and safe environment in all patient areas, incorporating principles of safety and infection control into daily duties
- Participate in any and all in-service training as scheduled by supervisor
- Stock nursing areas daily, or as needed
- Clean all patient areas daily, as needed
OTHER DUTIES
- Contribute to the effectiveness of the healthcare team by working together to complete individually assigned work and the work of the team
- Ensure that medication and temperature logs are accurately maintained
- Record a correct count of patients treated
- Translate, if qualified, for limited English speaking patients
- Other duties as assigned
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES (minimum qualifications)
- Must have a HS Diploma or GED equivalent
- Must have current CPR certification
- Demonstrate honest and ethical behavior
- Must have successfully completed Medical Assistant Certificate/Degree from an accredited Medical Assistant program or equivalent training; and
- Must have <3 months experience as medical assistant and/or < 6 months’ work experience with LaSalle Medical Associates; and
- Must be able to pass LMA’s Skills Evaluation with minimum score, which must fall within an Advance score by the end of introductory period, and
- Demonstrated good communication (oral and written) skills
- Must be computer literate with technical aptitude (ability to access approved websites, data entry, email, electronic medical records)
- Must possess good interpersonal skills
- Bilingual a must (English and Spanish)
