Position Summary: Assists the pharmacist with the technical and clerical aspects of dispensing prescriptions as well as the business aspects of running a successful pharmacy business.
Functions/Responsibilities
Prescription dispensing
- Obtaining the drug from the shelf
- Scanning the product chosen from the shelf to ensure it is correct.
- Counting or measuring the specific quantity of the product
- Placing the product in the appropriate container
- Affixing the correct label to the container.
- Follow appropriate “staging” procedures so the pharmacist knows which prescription is next to be finished.
- Process prescription refills through the computer system.
- All the duties of a level I technician
- Obtain all information required to process a prescription and establish a medication profile (name, address, date of birth, telephone number, physician, medication allergies, and prescription insurance information).
- Enter the prescription and the patient’s medication profile into the computer accurately and efficiently.
- Reliably and accurately alert the pharmacist on duty to any urgent DUR messages.
- Successfully adjudicate the claim to the third party payor.
- Solve payor related issues and document unresolved issues to inform the patient.
- Following the appropriate “staging” procedures so the
“filling” technician knows which prescription is next to be prepared.
- All the duties of a level I and II technician- Answers questions from level I and II technicians to prevent pharmacist interruptions- Fax doctor call requests to physician’s offices
Inventory Control
- Select the appropriate wholesaler for ordering products.
- Place drug orders through the secondary wholesaler.
- Send prescription refills to Central Fill when appropriate.
- Receive and process drug shipments including pricing products from the secondary wholesaler, shelving the products and shelving the products.
- Pull outdated and overstocked items from the shelves.

- Place drug orders through our Kroger warehouse
- Review all drug orders, quantity on hands, and minimums for accuracy.
- Send new prescriptions to Central Fill where appropriate.
- Process the required paperwork after a drug order is received.
- All of the duties of a level I and II technician
- Process and return all outdated, recalled, and overstocked product to the appropriate wholesaler.
- Assist with inventory and business related paperwork as directed by the pharmacist.
Clerical
- Performs receptionist duties (i.e. answers all telephone calls and greets customers)
- Handles customer’s inquiries on where to location an item in the store.
- Makes appropriate referral decisions on customer requests, questions, and needs that require the professional expertise of the pharmacist.
- When directed, acts as an intermediary between the patient and the pharmacist (i.e. presenting the offer to be counseled by the pharmacist).
- Handles all cash register transactions
- Handles the customer signing the appropriate Scriptrac and HIPAA forms at will call as well as filing these forms
- All duties of a level I technician
- Reconciling the Scriptrac paperwork the following day
- Maintains records on daily and weekly prescription volume and sales
- Maintains and inputs accuracy scanner data each week
- Performs 24 hour Post Dispensing Audits each day
- Investigates and resolves problems with rejected prescription claims including resubmitting claims
- Ordering pharmacy supplies from the appropriate wholesaler.

- Assists with pharmacy scheduling as when directed by the pharmacist.
Housekeeping
- Ensures that the pharmacy is neat and customer ready at all times (clean windows and counters)
- Keeps the pharmacy stocked with prescription vials, printer paper, auxiliary labels, forms, and other necessary supplies as well as emptying the trash.

Customer Relations
- Behaves in a caring, respectful, and courteous manner toward customers and positively represents the Kroger corporation
- Responds to customer complaints in an empathetic and responsible manner, making a reasonable attempt to assist the customer with complaint resolution

Pharmacy Technician Job Specifications
Education/Experience: None required. Training occurs on the job.
Skills/Attributes:
