RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES
The duties are performed regularly to accomplish the purpose of the job in a full-scale AP Laboratory. This specific position will have an emphasis on specimen processing and performing laboratory aide functions daily. This is not an exhaustive list of all duties and responsibilities, but rather a general description of the work performed in this position.
- Answering phones: able to handle patient and client services as well as requests.
- Specimen Triage: receive specimens; verify proper identifiers on all requisition forms and specimen containers. Accurately enter patient demographics/ registration information and laboratory test orders into laboratory information systems (LIS).
- Specimen Prep: procurement and preparing laboratory specimens for processing in the Histology and Cytology laboratories.
- File Room Management: filing slides, blocks and performing clerical functions associated with the file room, special requests, and outside consult cases.
- Insurance Verification: will verify insurance on all cases for billing.
- Waste Management: prepares medical/chemical waste for pick-up and disposal.
- Routine Equipment Maintenance: performs routine maintenance and cleaning of equipment.
- Inventory/Reagent Management: rotates and restocks reagents and supplies as needed.
- QA/QC Maintenance: helps to maintain laboratory quality control and quality assurance logs.
- Clerical duties: performs clerical duties associated with the Histology and Cytology laboratory.
- Maintains patient confidentiality and compliance with HIPPA regulations at all times.
- Complies with all safety policies and company SOP's.
- Special projects as assigned by the Operations Manager and Laboratory Director.
SUPERVISION
Routine work is performed without direct supervision. All special projects are performed under direct supervision of the Operations Manager. The lab aide/specimen processor is answerable to the Medical Director and Operations Manager and is in constant contact for daily function and issues that may arise.
EDUCATION AND KNOWLEDGE
Minimum of an High School diploma is required, Associcates degree or higher prefered. Minimum of 2 years’ experience as a medical accessioner and/or insurance verification specialist is preferred. Lab aide experience a plus.

OTHER SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
Computer literate (MS Office), equipment related software (LIS), e-mail etc. Must be detail oriented. Must be proficient in medical terminology. Must be able to type at a minimum of 50 wpm.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit, stand, walk, bend and may require lifting or moving of items up to 30 pounds.
