Position Summary:
Futuro Health seeks to expand the team with the addition of an Instructor for Peer Support Specialist training programs. As an Instructor, this pivotal role makes a positive impact on the lives of scholars within the healthcare workforce and their eventual patients. The online Instructors are responsible for guiding scholars through the soft skills learning experience through video calls, responding thoughtfully and timely posts in Canvas, sensing and responding to individual and group needs, and modeling best practices as an Instructor. Peer Support Specialists provide peer-to-peer support and promote recovery for individuals facing mental health challenges or substance use disorders. Leveraging their lived experience to inspire hope, assist with navigating the healthcare system, and empower clients on their journey to wellness and stability.
Essential Job Functions
- Facilitate synchronous and asynchronous instruction modules including reviewing and responding to discussion posts
- Coordinates the process and orientation for onboarding students into the Learning Management System
- Regularly communicate with participants about their progress as well as upcoming course activities, responding to scholars within 24-48 hours
- Track participation in the Canvas course system and provides regular reporting on outcomes
- Participate in debriefing calls with the facilitation team
- Facilitate multiple 1-hour live sessions using a conferencing tool in Canvas
- 2 hours per week of prep and grading
- Enforce academic policies
- Enforce code of conduct
- Provide real-time feedback to students
- Remediate students
- Complete all grading in specified timeframe
- Notify Senior Program Manager of Direct Care Services and Jumpstart Pathways on students at-risk and students who fail courses.
- Interact with students in a professional manner, offering constructive, encouraging, and timely feedback
- Conduct as needed weekly “live” video discussions (using Canvas Collaborate)
- Continuously improve the effectiveness of the student journey, workflow, automated nudges/scripts/FAQs, academic policies, and operational procedures.
- Develops and implements student retention and completion strategies
- Works with other Futuro Health divisions to facilitate recruitment towards numerical goals and min/preferred qualifications
- Provides direction on next steps to sit for certification exam
- Conducts certification exam review
- Develops contingencies for enrollment as needed
- Schedules course offerings in accordance with recruitment flow
Qualifications:
- Bilingual (preferred)
- Prior experience teaching (preferred)
- Ability to learn or have experience facilitating a course using an LMS like Canvas (preferred)
- Demonstrate effective facilitation skills during a 10-minute teaching demo
- Background in allied health
- Be self-identified as having experience with the process of recovery from mental illness or substance use disorder, either as a consumer of these services or as the parent, caregiver or family member of a consumer.
- Minimum of 1 year in mental health industry experience or 3 years’ experience with training as a peer support specialist.
- Ability to monitor and recommend improved program outcomes.
- Good interpersonal skills are demonstrated by the ability to relate, establish and cultivate respectful relationships with people from diverse backgrounds.
- Working knowledge of collaboration tools including Microsoft Office Suite, e-mail, Zoom or Teams, and databases. Ability to learn new software as required.
Education:
Candidate must hold a current certification as a Peer Support Specialist in California and have proficiency in English (Spanish a plus). Training as a peer support specialist, community health worker, or relevant field of study or years of equivalent related work experience in lieu of the degree. An associate degree or certification/ license in allied health is desirable.
Work Environment/Travel:
This is a remote role. Travel will also be required to attend meetings and conferences.
Supervisory Responsibility:
This role does not have supervisory responsibility over other staff.
Physical Demands: The capacity to lift 25 pounds is required. Able to drive, sit, stand, and walk for long periods of time. Ability to work irregular hours including after hours and weekends although this will be infrequent.
Position Type: This position is part-time, 24 hours per week. The hours may include weekends, nights and holidays.
