PURPOSE: The purpose of this position is to provide intake assessment and to provide routine and urgent medical care to the inmate population of the Adult Detention Facility within scope of licensed abilities in an autonomous environment, including, but not limited to, general office, medical, dental, psychiatric, obstetric, post-op, and triage. The work is performed under the supervision of the Health Services Coordinator and strictly within the scope of licensed abilities. Day and night shifts available.
JOB DESCRIPTION:
- Ensure the health and welfare of the inmates and is responsible for maintaining a safe and secure environment in collaboration with the Security Officers
- Work autonomously within scope of licensed abilities to collaborate with physicians, counselors, and peers to develop and implement treatment plans
- Evaluate and triage routine to emergent requests for medical treatment
- Maintain EMR documentation, keeping all patient records up to date
- Perform and document in the EMR various assessments, including physical, mental, and substance detox
- Determine medical stability for confinement - Arranges patient transport to outside medical care as needed
- Monitor and maintain narcotics count and syringe count
- Obtain blood and other lab specimens as ordered
- Administer medications and TB tests as ordered
- Participate in staff meetings and training to comply with license and correctional health professional certification
REQUIREMENTS:
- Associate Degree required – Bachelor’s Degree preferred
- Valid Licensure as a Registered Nurse in the state of Missouri
- Minimum one (1) year of professional Registered Nurse experience – Prefer experience in Corrections Medicine, Emergency Department, or Psychiatric Facility setting
- Healthcare BLS Certification
- Maintain working knowledge of behavioral sciences, particularly as applied to the Correctional setting
- Maintain working knowledge of Pharmacology – including drug reaction/overdose
