Environmental Manager
Overview:
Kindle Energy LLC (“Kindle”) specializes in the management, optimization, and development of power generation in the United States and Canada and is a portfolio company of The Blackstone Group. Blackstone is a leading global alternative asset manager with more than $1 trillion of total assets under management. Currently, Kindle manages 5+ GWs of generation in Ohio, and Indiana with a 700 MW CCGT project and 164 MW SCGT under construction in Louisiana and Colorado respectively.
We are seeking an experienced individual for the position of Manager Environmental to support environmental processes, compliance, and permitting at power generation portfolios currently under management as well as assist with new initiatives with the business development team. The position is approved to work remotely with a travel requirement of >than 50%.
Primary Responsibilities:
- Plan, direct, and oversee the timely modification or renewal of all permits
- Plan, direct, and oversee the timely submittal of all environmental compliance reports, testing, sampling
- Plan, direct, implement, and oversee environmental permitting for assigned facilities including consultant selection, budget development, project management, permit lifecycle review and comment, and upload of new requirements into the Environmental Management Information System (EMIS)
- Plan, direct, implement, and oversee a wide range of environmental disciplines and programs to achieve compliance with federal, state, and local regulatory requirements
- Monitor and assess changes to current and emerging state, federal, and local environmental laws, and regulations to determine applicability to facilities
- Review, interpret and advise management on environmental compliance and policy matters
- Plan, direct, implement, and oversee plant procedures and make recommendations for updates according to laws, regulations, and good power plant practices and environmental standards
- Investigate environmental-related incidents, occurrences and/or violations as necessary
- Recommend improvements in processes, design, procedures, and operation of equipment, to minimize hazardous conditions and incidents
- Implements quality assurance programs
- Prepares and maintains environmental compliance documents and records where appropriate to be completed at a regional level
- Monitor and manage air emissions and allowance trading programs for assigned facilities
- Meet with state and federal environmental agencies as needed
- Assist in environmental due diligence on all development and M&A projects, as assigned
- Oversee environmental permitting on relevant development projects, as assigned
- Develop, coordinate, and oversee compliance projects including budget development, consultant selection, environmental design requirements
- Plan, direct, and report on ESG issues
- Participate in industry work groups as needed and assigned
Qualifications:
- Bachelors or Masters degree in environmental sciences, or other related field within power generation and/or energy
- 3+ years of proven experience in the energy field leading the environmental initiatives including compliance, permitting, and reporting; experience managing environmental compliance programs for power generation facilities is preferred
- Experience leading environmental projects
- Must have an extreme focus on safety and environment-over-production
- Experience in effectively leading individuals and teams; including vendor management
- Must have a high level of self-awareness, motivation, and ability to communicate openly and timely with team members
- Exceptional written and verbal communication skills
