JOB SUMMARY
The Adoption Counselor is responsible for assisting the public with appropriate adoption choices in a friendly, courteous, and approachable manner.
Primary Responsibilities
- Facilitate the adoption process on-site at Friends of Strays or at off-site locations
- Counsel new pet owners while maintaining a positive and non-judgmental attitude
- Data entry using Pet Point and Microsoft Office programs
- Transport pets, crates, tables, supplies, etc., to off-site adoption locations, as needed
- Walk and train adoptable dogs
- Maintain a clean and safe environment for the animals and the public
- Interact with, train and engage volunteers
- Take photos of adoptable animals and write bios
- Other duties as assigned
Qualifications
- High school diploma or GED
- Hands-on experience with animals preferred but not required
- 2-3 years of customer service experience in an office or retail business setting
- Basic computer and data entry skills
- Ability to learn shelter software for appropriate documentation and record keeping
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Attention to detail, good organization and follow-through skills
- Ability to work independently but also be a team player, working well with others
- Patient and professional in dealing with customers, co-workers and volunteers
- Commitment to and representation of the Friends of Strays mission
Work Schedule
- The working schedule is 40 hours, Friday through Tuesday.
- The schedule for this position includes weekday, weekend, and holiday hours
- Hours and days are subject to change based on department needs
