The Albany Pet Hotel is seeking an outgoing animal lover to join our receptionist team! The ideal candidate enjoys working with both people and dogs equally, demonstrates excellent customer service and problem solving skills, and is punctual and detail oriented. Previous receptionist experience is required, but professional pet care experience is not!
Job Tasks & Responsibilities
- Be able to handle a variety of dogs, cats, birds, and small animals ranging in age, size, and temperament
- Provide excellent customer service including greeting clients and their pets by name, handling any client disputes as they arise, and demonstrating organization and detail orientation skills
- Be able to handle multi-line phones, and respond to text messages, emails, and voice messages in a professional and timely manner
- Use our computer program to check in/out pets, take payments, create new client profiles, and make boarding reservations and grooming appointments
- Help maintain a clean lobby and reception area with some janitorial duties such as mopping, sweeping, and dusting, and cleaning up any accidental pet waste in this space
- Be willing to learn some animal care tasks including cleaning kennels, sanitizing play areas, laundry, dishes, 1:1 playtime and potty services with boarding and daycare dogs, and more
- Count our cash drawer at night and print end of day reports
- Be able to help hold for walk-in grooming services including nail trims
- Provide tours of our facility and be able to recommend products and services based on pet and client needs
Availability & Scheduling
Our receptionists work a variety of 5-12 hour days starting as early as 6:30am and as late as 6:30pm. We are currently seeking someone who has all-day availability Wednesday - Friday with potential to pick up other shifts during the week as needed. Anticipated hours per week may vary from 30 hours - 38 hours depending on occupancy and demand. Holiday availability including Christmastime is a must.
Additional opportunities to cross train as a Bather and/or as an Animal Care Handler are available, but we are currently primarily seeking someone who can fulfill the Receptionist role.
Job Requirements
- Must have at least 6 months of prior receptionist experience
- Must be available to work the shifts outlined above including holidays
- Must be able to lift 25 pounds independently, stand on your feet for long periods of time, walk up and down a flight of stairs, and be able to safely handle dogs +80 pounds
- Must be at least 18 years of age
Please note, while this is a receptionist position, this is not your typical customer service job. Our receptionists are very active on their feet and hands-on with bringing pets to and from the lobby area. The ideal candidate is someone who is upbeat, has a great attitude even on our busier days, demonstrates punctuality that exceeds our attendance policy, is detail oriented and self sufficient once comfortable, is a huge team player, and enjoys working with both people and dogs.
