Purpose / Overview
You will be responsible for providing day-to-day leadership of the accounting/finance team and plan/oversee all aspects of the organization’s financial processes. The ideal candidate will be an excellent leader and a key advisor to the President in establishing strategic initiatives.
Goals will include working with the President to proactively report financial metrics, protect revenues, maximize profits, enable data-backed financial decision making, and well-planned growth. Functions include accounting, preparation, reporting, analysis, budgeting, project management, process improvement, prioritizing tasks, and remaining professional under pressure or fast-paced deadlines.You will monitor and forecast the company’s financial results, review quarterly and annual budgets.
To be successful in this role, you should have in-depth knowledge of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) and proven experience with risk management. You will make sure we comply with accounting regulations, maximize profits, and wisely navigate financial risks. Residential home building and/or commercial building experience preferred.
Job Duties:
- Provides overall day-to-day leadership of the accounting procedures, policies, compliance, information systems and continuously strives for efficiencies ensuring timely payments including loan draws, accounts payable, and payroll.
- Provides leadership, management, and training to the accounting/finance team.
- Manages the day-to-day financial reporting function including cash management and managing contributions/distributions.
- Monitors and proactively reports the company’s financial results creating ad-hoc reports as needed, reviews quarterly and annual budgets, and oversees accounting transactions for multiple entities.
- Drives the company’s financial planning/forecasting and managing the P&L for multiple entities. Partners with the President to recommend short-, medium-, and long-term goals.
- Responsible for associated financial modeling and measurement against approved targets.
- Responsible for analysis of acquisitions/dispositions, analyze costs and profit for land development, vertical construction, and support service entities.
- Builds models to evaluate prospective investments and presents them to ownership representatives; make recommendations regarding profitability and improvement strategies.
- Prepares quarterly cash flows projection for Project Entities and ensures communications to ownership representatives and partners are in accordance with terms of agreements.
- Monitors closing process to assure that company financial reports are complete and sent to users in a timely manner and for board reporting.
- Set, track, and communicate to executive leadership progress against financial KPIs
- Assures other reports are completed and remitted for quarterly consolidation in a timely manner.
- Perform risk-based internal audits.
- Oversee CPA firm’s external financial statement review and timely completion of taxes and reporting.
Qualifications:
- 6+ years progressive work experience as a Controller or similar role. Home building experience preferred.
- BSc or MSc in Accounting or Finance required. CPA or CMA preferred.
- Experience with prospective cash management, equity/capital management, debt/lender management - real estate accounting experience a plus.
- Hands-on experience with payroll, general ledgers and subledgers and other accounting functions. Thorough knowledge of accounting principles, procedures, and legislation.
- Hands-on experience with consolidating financial statements, equity-method accounting, related party transactions, and eliminating entries.
- Exceptional organizational skills, prioritizing workload with tight deadlines, attention to detail, and can work under pressure in a fast-paced environment.
- Well-organized with strong business acumen that can flex between the doing and designing, possessing both a strategic focus as well as a detail-oriented approach to action.
- Strong management skills, including proven people management, and able to manage workflow for multiple team members.
- Excellent oral, written, and presentation skills necessary to communicate and work effectively with senior management and co-workers.
- Good knowledge of accounting software (Sage 300 CRE, previously known as Timberline).
This is a full-time in-office position.

Pay: $140,000.00 - $160,000.00 per year
