Summary
The primary purpose of this position is to perform construction-related painting activities for capital improvement and development projects at MPHA properties.
All activities must support the Minneapolis Public Housing Authority’s ('MPHA' or 'Authority') mission, vision and values.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
The position duties and responsibilities listed below describe the general nature and scope of work. Other responsibilities, duties and skills may be required and assigned, as needed.

Tapes and covers surfaces not being painted to protect them.

Cleans and prepares surfaces to be painted by washing, sanding, scraping, or grinding.

Fills holes and cracks with spackle, plaster, or taping mud to provide smooth surface.

Mixes paints and products to be used; primes, paints, and/or varnishes surface with a brush, roller, or spray gun.

Cleans job location upon completion of job; moves furniture and equipment into place.

Removes contact paper and wall paper; removes mirrors, strips woodwork, and pressure washes.

Orders paint and related supplies as required; organizes supplies and work areas.

May be assigned maintenance-related painting work.

Performs other related duties as assigned.

To perform this job successfully, the employee is frequently required to travel to various Authority properties to perform maintenance work. Daily movements include sitting; standing; reaching and grasping; operating handheld tools and other machinery; moving about the properties; and attending onsite meetings and offsite meetings. The employee must be able to exchange information in person, in writing, and via telephone. The employee must occasionally transport up to 50 pounds.

The work of this position is performed entirely on-site in support of our agency's mission. Position generally works on Authority properties, which may cause the employee to experience a range in temperatures and other weather conditions. The noise level may be loud and the environment may be more hazardous than a standard office environment. This position may be required to work with contractors as well as Authority residents.
Experience and Skills:
Education and/or Experience
High School Diploma or GED, with vocational training focused on painting and a minimum of three (3) years of experience in construction or building maintenance. An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.
Must be a Journeyperson Painter who has successfully completed a state-approved Apprenticeship training program. An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.
Some positions may require possession of a valid driver’s license. Those positions may also require use of a personal vehicle and evidence of individual automobile insurance coverage, or the ability to be insurable under the Authority’s automobile insurance plan at the standard rate. Must pass a criminal history background check.
Technical Skills
To perform this job successfully, the employee should be able to successfully operate a variety of applicable hand-held tools and equipment. Must have the ability to learn proper use of other tools and equipment as required by assigned tasks.
