Journeyman Lineman
*Job Pay Based on Experience
Position Summary:
o Journeyman Lineman is a skilled position in the construction, maintenance and repair of electrical overhead distribution systems and primary risers. This position works at various locations and may also be required to travel to another state depending on customer demands, per diem and lodging provided.
Journeyman Lineman Essential Functions:
o Works safely while performing new construction, maintenance, or repair work of energized and de-energized overhead work.
o Capable of leading crew members in the absence of the Foreman.
o Strings overhead wire.
o Set poles and anchors.
o Installs, lightning arrestors, crossarms, cutouts, insulators, switches, switchgears, and transformers.
o Ability to troubleshoot primary and secondary systems.
o Ability to replace cutout fuses and clears faulted circuits and systems.
o Frequently works with energized high voltage systems requiring skill and care to protect the lives of themselves and others.
o Maintains company vehicles, equipment, and tools in good working order.
o Ability to perform rigorous physical labor.
o Ability to identify primary and secondary voltage on a circuit.
o Must be familiar with induced voltage.
o Understands grounding procedures.
o Capable of working at heights and/or confined spaces.
o Capable of properly installing and removing PPE and cover up.
o Ability to climb different types of structures (wood, steel, etc.) and possess the necessary tools to do so.
o Must understand how to phase out a line using phasing sticks.
o Capable of planning safe work based on a job print or work order.
o Understands how to obtain a one shot on a recloser.
o Ability to effectively conduct a pre-job or tailgate briefing.
o Ability to safely perform a reconductoring job.
o Willingness to glove/work live high voltage distribution power lines.
o Capable of safely installing and removing mechanical jumpers.
o Understands how to use a load bust tool.
o Does all other related work as required to complete the job.
o Must be able to work outside, frequently in inclement weather conditions.
Journeyman Lineman Minimum Requirements:
o 5-year minimum of recent field experience.
o Ability to read and communicate effectively in English.
o A Commercial Driver’s License is preferred or ability to obtain a Commercial Driver’s License permit within 60 days of employment.
o Ability to travel long distances on short notice, when required.
o Ability to work for extended periods in various locations, when required.
o Ability to lift in excess of 50 lbs.
o Ability to properly inspect rubber goods and PPE.
o Willing to work over-time when requested.
o Willingness to glove/work live high voltage distribution power lines.
Work Environment:
o The employee may be subject to one or more of the following atmospheric conditions that affect the respiratory system or the skin: fumes, odors, dust, mists, gases, or poor ventilation.
