We’re seeking a tactful, empathetic, and thoughtful Human Resources Manager to oversee our companies’ 100 employees. The ideal candidate will gracefully keep the companies in legal compliance while taking an employee-first view of the job. The ability to bring creative ideas to the development of programs that support company culture will be favored, as will strong integrity and ethics.
The preferred candidate will live close enough to work in our Newburyport, Massachusetts office 1-2 days per week. Limited outside travel may also be required.
In this role, you will have the opportunity to:
- Oversee and refine employee standards and procedures, using existing HR systems as well as improved or recommended processes
- Maintain and enhance employee benefits programs, including compensation, health insurance, 401(k) with employer match, expense reimbursement, life insurance, short and long-term disability insurance, and PTO
- Process payroll, bonuses, and other types of compensation
- Assist with recruitment efforts; oversee the interviewing and hiring of new staff
- Prepare new employees for their assignments by establishing and conducting orientation and training programs
- Ensure compliance with national and local HR regulations by conducting investigations and maintaining records
- Motivate staff through the creation of employee wellness and work/life balance programs
- Plan, monitor, and appraise HR activities by scheduling management conferences, resolving employee grievances, training managers in how to coach and discipline, and counseling employees and supervisors
- Assist in the development and enforcement of company-wide policies and practices
- Attend various departmental meetings in order to maintain effective working relationships with colleagues across departments and seniority levels
- Maintain management guidelines by preparing, updating, and recommending human-resources policies and procedures
- Identify opportunities for streamlining processes and improving efficiencies
To be successful in this role, we ask that you have:
- Bachelor’s degree in human resources, business, finance, or another related field
- Natural empathy for people and a “how can I help?” attitude
- Experience with employment and labor laws
- Strong computer skills and experience with the Google Suite of products
- Excellent leadership, training, and developmental skills
- Exceptional verbal and written communication skills
- Strong business acumen with the ability to merge human resource decisions with the company’s overall objectives
- Ability to handle confidential matters with discretion
- Ability to develop strong working relationships with colleagues across departments and seniority levels
- Ability to manage projects and drive them to completion
- Familiarity with Employee Navigator a plus
- Familiarity with Paychex a plus
