The Lawrence County YMCA is currently hiring for a Child Care Assistant in our Child Development Center. The Child Care Assistant is responsible for assisting with the planning, development, and implementation of all group activities. Job responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
- Assist the Lead Teacher in caring for a group of children
- Assist the Lead Teacher in providing a quality curriculum in the Child Care Center that takes into consideration the needs of each child and the goals and objectives of the Department of Public Welfare of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania and the Lawrence County YMCA.
- Responsible for the care, safety, and well-being of the children in the program at all times.
- Effectively assist with carrying out the weekly activities planned by the Lead Teacher.
- Document attendance, medication log, and accident reports for each child in compliance with state licensing requirements.
- Maintain effective written and verbal communication with parents throughout the year.
- Attend staff meetings and in-service training programs to meet additional education requirements established by the PA Department of Public Welfare
- Attend parent or parent-child events related to the program
- Responsible for the appearance of the group and maintaining the quality of supplies, equipment, and materials for the classroom.
- Responsible for serving lunch and snack to the group
- Demonstrate verbally and by role model to a sound knowledge of good teaching practices and of child growth and development.
- Continue professional development through community involvement, reading, and further education
- All other tasks as assigned by designate.
Qualifications:
- A High School Diploma or G.E.D. with a minimum of 15 credit hours in early childhood education, child development, special education, elementary education, or a human services field and 1 year work experience related to the care and development of children or a high school diploma or G.E.D. with 2 years of work experience related to the care and development of children
- Must have child abuse, criminal record and FBI Fingerprint clearances
- Must have a physical every two years and a negative TB test upon hiring
- General knowledge of nutrition and health & must be certified in Pediatric First Aid, CPR/AED
