Francis W. Parker School is a renowned JK-12th grade independent day school. We are currently seeking a dynamic, innovative, and experienced Third Grade Teacher to join our expert faculty, working on a grade level team with two other teachers, for the 2024-25 school year. The Third Grade Teacher should possess a holistic view of children, an understanding of the developmental issues of 3rd grade students, a passion for integrated learning, and strong communication skills. The Third Grade Teacher must be talented in teaching math, reading, writing, and social studies and oriented toward experiences with art, music, science, and drama. A commitment to experiential learning is essential, as the third grade curriculum is collaborative and integrated, with a central topic based on the study of Chicago. The Third Grade teacher must also be able to modify curriculum for different types of learners and write descriptive narrative report cards.
● Elementary Education Degree; M.Ed. or M.A. in Education preferred
● Significant classroom teaching experience; 5 year minimum preferred
● Ability to collaborate, create, and modify curriculum with colleagues on a team
● Experience in explicit math and reading instruction focused on comprehension and problem solving
● Demonstrated record of developing one’s own cultural competency and incorporating diversity, equity, inclusion, and belonging concepts into practices and curriculum
● Excellence in classroom management techniques, especially meaningful SEL teaching (explicit and responsive) throughout daily plans
● Competence in connecting with students and creating a healthy classroom community
● Organized and purposeful about materials and lesson plans
● Flexibility in working with departmental teachers to integrate topics between disciplines
● Experience with supervising and mentoring assistant or student teachers
● Collaboration with faculty and administration
● Willingness to contribute planning hours with third grade level team to support shared experiences
● Adept at clear and tactful communication with parents who have high expectations
● Ability to embrace and manage parent/guardian help around special events that enrich the curriculum
● Enthusiasm for professional development and further knowledge about pedagogy
● Superior communication skills (both oral and written), sound judgment, and emotional maturity
● Proficiency with Google Classroom Suite and technology in general
