Full Job Description
At Lexington Maintenance, acts as assistant foreman in the absence of the regular foreman. This includes keeping the crew working and productive. Compiles and enters information to make complete and accurate daily work report in HMMS (Highway Maintenance Management System). Lead workers in asphalt placement such as potholes, overlays, and full depth patching. Places asphalt and tamps for a good seal. Driveways are leveled and rolled and left neat. All loose materials are removed and placed back onto the truck along with tools used. Fills in wash outs with sand and rock using the truck and shovel. Leads workers in right of way management and safety mowing. Operates backhoe to clean out ditches, install and pave driveways with or without pipe, install crossline pipe, machine high shoulders, grade and fill low shoulders, and remove dead trees from the right-of-way. Ensures pipe is installed to maintain a positive water flow. Area should be dressed before leaving the job site. Operates an 8 yard and 5-yard dump truck to haul equipment and materials to and from the job site and operates a truck with spreader to sand for emergencies such as oil spills and hazardous weather. Ensures preventive maintenance is maintained on all equipment and a record is kept. Equipment should be properly tied down and all material removed from sides and tail gate of truck before operations begins. Sets up traffic control devices to warn motorist of roadwork ahead according to the South Carolina Manual on Uniform Traffic Control Devices. Works as required or as necessary during hazardous weather or other emergencies to ensure safety of the motoring public. May include working 12-hour shifts.
Two (2) years of related work experience; or an approved acceptable equivalence. Necessary Special Requirement: A valid motor vehicle operator’s license is required upon entry to the position. Requires attainment of a Class A Commercial Driver's License (CDL) within six (6) months of placement in the position.
The physical demands for the essential functions of this position involve bending, stooping, reaching, twisting, climbing, balancing, kneeling, pushing, pulling, grasping and physically manipulating objects of varying size, shape, weight, and material. Must be able to lift up to 50 lbs. This position requires walking for extended periods, treading rough and uneven terrain, and working in close proximity to motoring traffic and natural environmental hazards. May be required to work outside of normal work schedule, especially during inclement weather and/or other departmental-related emergencies. Frequently exposed to outside environment in all weather conditions, noise, and oil or grease on a daily basis.
May be required to work overtime, nighttime, and/or weekends during hazardous weather or emergencies.
