Position Summary
The Direct Support Professional is responsible for a variety of duties related to the overall care of individuals with developmental disabilities and genetic disorders who reside at Creekside Residential Care. This includes direct care of individuals and implementation of individual plans of service (IPS) and behavior plans (BP). Direct Support Professionals are required to perform all duties in accordance with State of Michigan regulations and FSF policies and procedures
Duties and Responsibilities
- Provides direct care to those with intellectual and developmental disabilities. This includes high medical needs.
- Performs personal care tasks, including assistance with basic personal hygiene and grooming, feeding, and ambulation, medical monitoring, and health care related tasks.
- Administers medications to individuals as assigned.
- Observes individuals for any changes in behavior or health that may have resulted from medication administration;
- Ensures client safety and maintains a safe environment.
- Reports changes in client’s condition or family situation to administrators and supervisors.
- Documents services provided.
- Performs home management functions such as light housekeeping, laundry, bed making, and cleaning.
- Accompanies clients to scheduled appointments.
- Assists with toileting, including bedpans, urinals, and commode chairs as necessary.
- Other duties as assigned.
- Ensures that all documentation is completed accurately and in a timely manner.
- Ensures Medication Administration Record (MAR) entries are completed daily.
- Completes communication log books during shift.
Work Requirements
- Valid driver’s license and clear driving record. Ability to drive company vehicles. One to two years’ experience working with people with developmental disabilities. Ability to lift/push/pull 50lbs. Ability to work on holidays and during inclement weather.
