ZAI is seeking a qualified Spanish Translator (Hybrid position in Washington, D.C) to translate biomedical and other documents from English to Spanish and from Spanish to English. The Spanish Translator will work on the Translations Team for a major biomedical library, as one of two professional translators, assisted by two translation technicians. Translation services will include translations for both scientific and lay audiences.

Qualified applicants must live in the U.S. and be U.S. citizens.
Responsibilities
- Translate biomedical content from English into Spanish and from Spanish into English
- Review and edit translations prepared by staff and contractors
- Research terminology encountered in translation assignments using authoritative online and printed resources.
- Recreate the source language document format using desktop publishing tools.
- Maintain translation memories and termbases in Trados
- Review translations in other languages, as the need arises.
- Participate in presentations, meetings, and other activities prepared by the Translations Team
- Assist with the annual Translations Team initiatives
- Interact with NIH clients to provide outstanding customer service
- Serve as Notary Public
Requirements:
- Bachelor’s degree in translation or biomedical sciences
- Native/bilingual proficiency in English and Spanish*
- Minimum of three years of full-time experience translating and reviewing complex scientific documents
- Ability to translate from both English to Spanish and Spanish to English
- Strong proofreading and editing skills
- Ability to manage deadlines in a fast-paced translation environment
- Familiarity with Computer Assisted Translation (CAT) tools
Desired:
- American Translators Association (ATA) certification
- Proficiency in additional languages
- Desktop publishing skills
- Master’s degree or completed certification program in translation or biomedical sciences
