POSITION SUMMARY
Performs intermediate professional work developing, coordinating, and executing cultural programming and events in the Matthews Community Center and McDowell Arts Center. Supervision is exercised over administrative full-time staff, part-time recreation staff, and volunteers. Work is performed under the general supervision of the Parks, Recreation, and Cultural Resources Director.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

- Plans, coordinates, and executes various recreational programs, summer camp programs, and events with a focus on cultural arts.
- Designs and produces marketing and promotional material through multiple forms of media.
- Acts as liaison for the Town of Matthews with performing arts organizations that utilize the Matthews Community Center and McDowell Arts Center and serves on applicable boards and committees.
- Coordinates the proper cleaning and maintenance of the Matthews Community Center and McDowell Arts Center with Town staff and other contracted service providers.
- Supervises technical audio-video work performed within the Fullwood Theater, located inside the Matthews Community Center.
- Responsible for supervision, design of work plan, evaluation of performance, and scheduling for full-time and part-time staff of the Matthews Community Center and McDowell Arts Center.
- Maintains agreements with service.
- Administers the web-based participant registration program for the department.
- Administers the public art program for the Town of Matthews.
- Responsible for oversight of cultural arts division operational budget and accomplishment of cultural division revenue goals.
- Responsible for identifying and applying for alternative sources of revenue for programs and events.
- Responsible for maintaining an inventory of supplies and materials necessary for the operation of the Matthews Community Center and McDowell Arts
- Performs related tasks as required.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
This is medium work requiring the exertion of 50 pounds of force occasionally, up to 20 pounds of force frequently, and up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects; work requires climbing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, standing, walking, pulling, grasping, and repetitive motions; vocal communication is required for expressing or exchanging ideas by means of the spoken word; hearing is required to perceive information at normal spoken word levels, and to receive detailed information through oral communications and/or to make fine distinctions in sound; visual acuity is required for depth perception, color perception, peripheral vision, preparing and analyzing written or computer data, visual inspection involving small defects and/or small parts, operation of machines, determining the accuracy and thoroughness of work, and observing general surroundings and activities; the worker is subject to inside and outside environmental conditions.
WORKING ENVIRONMENT
Must be conscious of safety methods to avoid injury to others and themselves; Subject to hazards in parks and recreation including working in both inside and outside environments, in extreme hot and cold weather, and exposure to various hazards including but not limited to noise, moving mechanical parts, chemicals, dust, and atmospheric conditions. This position is subject to all State and Federal OSHA regulations, including, but not limited to the following: bloodborne pathogens, hazard communication/GHS, personal protective equipment, slips, trips, and falls, etc.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS
Graduation from an accredited four-year college or university with major course work in recreation, cultural arts, or a closely related field. At least two (2) years of experience designing and implementing recreation programs, with at least one (1) year of experience in a supervisory role; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
CERTIFICATE AND LICENSE REQUIREMENTS
- Certified Parks and Recreation Professional (CPRP) certificate is preferred.
- Must possess or be able to obtain a valid North Carolina Driver's License within 60 days of employment with a safe driving record. (If you possess a South Carolina Driver’s License and maintain residence in South Carolina, you are excluded from this requirement.)
CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT
The Town of Matthews requires background checks to be conducted on the final candidate(s) applying for any position with the Town of Matthews.
