Saint-Cyr Art Engagement designs and manages art education programs for a variety of clients, such as schools, healthcare, and nonprofits. We manage virtual, on-site, and hybrid visual art programs. The types of programs we manage are: year round, summer camps, virtual, and workshops.
We are seeking to contract Teaching Artists on a project basis to teach art education programs this upcoming 2024 summer school season. The sites for the programs would be throughout NYC. Lesson plans/curriculum and supplies will be provided.
We are mainly looking for Teaching Artists with experience in painting, drawing, and sculpture, to teach programs for kids and teens. We are looking to hire dynamic and versatile teaching artists who are able to work independently, and collaborate with school staff.
Candidates should have experience teaching a wide range of visual art projects and be willing to travel within NYC's five boroughs.
Having DOE fingerprints is a REQUIRED. If you are not already fingerprinted, you will have to have your fingerprints taken by DOE PRIOR to being assigned a school.
Compensation varies depending on the program, and usually ranges from $40-$125/hr.
Qualification
- Exceptional group management, problem-solving and conflict resolution skills
- Strong verbal and written communication skills
- Competency in youth development and child care
- Ability to create interactive academic and/or enrichment activities that are age-appropriate
- Engaging and Student-Centered Teaching, especially incorporating the creative process, reaching students across diverse developmental levels and needs, yielding quality student work,
- Strong understanding of academic standards in the arts, adjusting instruction to meet the needs of students, strong classroom management skills
- Professionalism, including strong communication, punctuality, and the ability to plan with and collaborate with others, and clear articulation and actualization of goals and objectives.
Responsibilities
- Designing and executing an age-appropriate, engaging arts curriculum following our lesson plans
- Preparing for and producing culminating presentations at assigned site(s). These are art exhibits highlighting students' work at the end of the art program.
- Collaborating effectively with school staff and communicating regularly with supervisory staff at Saint-Cyr Art Engagement.
- Submitting student attendance records, complete lesson and unit plans, timesheets, reports, and other vital programmatic documentation.
- Arrive 15-20 mins before the start of the program, and clean up after each class
- Engage all children in assigned activities, so that no child is left behind
- Ready and prepared to facilitate purposeful activities that foster the development of new skills in children, while reinforcing skills/information previously taught
Requirements
- 2+ years of experience teaching
- Must be DOE fingerprinted
- Work authorization (Required)
- Punctual and organize
- Able to commute throughout the 5 boroughs
- comfortable working with students k-12 (mainly elementary and middle school)
- Follow our lesson plans when teaching students
- Teaching Artists who work on-site are required to provide proof of vaccination, due to NYC and DOE regulations.
