TITLE: Supervisor, Pharmacy Purchasing
JOB OVERVIEW: The Supervisor for Pharmacy Purchasing is responsible for oversight and managing the procurement of all pharmaceuticals for Valley Medical Center, assuring a cost effective and reliable acquisition and inventory control system for all drug products; ensuring adequate pharmaceutical inventory and associated supplies are available to meet day-to-day operational needs and the patients we serve. In addition, this individual will collaborate with leaders from the pharmacy department's 340B, retail, and specialty pharmacy operations to optimize inventory management and minimize waste.
DEPARTMENT: Pharmacy Support Systems
WORK HOURS: Typically, Monday- Friday; Hours may vary to meet department needs, some weekends may be necessary.
REPORTS TO: Director Inpatient Pharmacy Operations/VP Pharmacy Services
PREREQUISITES:
Minimum of 2-3 years of hospital pharmacy experience including operations, purchasing, automation, or analytics, required. Experience with 340B pharmacy purchasing compliance requirements strongly preferred.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Ability to communicate with all levels of internal and external customers including but not limited to clinical personnel, support and technical staff, vendors, and regulatory agencies.
Ability to work with Microsoft Office programs, Epic, Willow Ambulatory, pharmacy wholesaler databases and other pharmacy/supply chain systems.
UNIQUE PHYSICAL/MENTAL DEMANDS, ENVIRONMENT AND WORKING CONDITIONS:
Ability to work at a computer for an extended period of time, with moderate data entry keyboarding. Mild to moderate walking (> 40% of shift), ability to stand for extended periods of time (> 30% of shift), lifting/moving of moderate weights (5-15 kg). Requires the ability to continually change priorities in response to changing patient and department needs. Requires the ability to work in an environment of constant interruptions.

B. Essential Responsibilities and Unique Job Functions
Manages controlled substance procurement, inventory, and distribution in accordance with all applicable federal and state laws and regulations. Routinely conducts cycle counts to ensure inventory integrity.
Reviews, administers, and ensures compliance with all pharmacy purchasing contracts as processed through VMC's group purchasing organization (GPO), wholesaler and through direct purchasing with manufacturers as required.
Communicates information regarding drug shortages to appropriate pharmacy leadership in a timely manner and identifies alternative suppliers for shortages, product discontinuation or other issues with inability to procure. Proactively manages on-hand inventories to minimize impact to the organization.
Ensures appropriate processing of all drug/product recalls, collaborates with Medication Safety Officer to ensure recalled inventory is sequestered for return, and any required notifications are communicated in a timely manner.
