The Quincy/Adams County 9-1-1 Communications Center is seeking 9-1-1 telecommunicator applicants that have the desire to work in an exciting, challenging, and rewarding career field. The 9-1-1 Center is a 24 hour, 7 day per week operation. Applicants must be able to work any of the three shifts (day, evening, overnight), weekends and holidays along with overtime that may be mandatory
Telecommunicator job duties include but are not limited to, answering 9-1-1 telephones, transmitting vital information to emergency personnel via the radio, relaying information via the Computer-Aided Dispatch (CAD) system and answering administrative phone lines. Telecommunicator starting wages are $20.20 per hour. Shift differentials are paid for telecommunicators assigned to the evening ($ 0.25) or midnight ($ 0.50) shifts. Additional benefits include an IMRF retirement plan as well as insurance packages for medical, dental and life.
Applicant Requirements:
- Must be at least 18 years of age
- Must have a high school diploma or equivalent
- Must be able to accurately type at least 30 wpm
- Must be able to pass the applicant testing, full police background investigation, psychological exam and drug/hearing/physical screenings
- Schedule flexibility and multi-tasking are paramount
- Must be able to work any of the three shifts, weekends and holidays along with overtime that may be mandatory
- Must reside within 45 miles of Quincy/Adams County 9-1-1 within 3 months of completion of probation and remain a resident within that area while employed with Quincy/Adams County 9-1-1
Desired Qualifications:
- Previous experience in a public safety environment, preferably in 9-1-1 dispatching
- Experience with computer-based, multi-line telephone equipment
- Computer / data entry experience
