Over Drew Charter School’s twenty-year history, the school has grown to serve grades PreK-12 with nearly 1,900 students in a “cradle-to-college” pipeline, including two onsite early learning partners. Drew implements a rigorous and supportive educational continuum, which includes tailored Response to Intervention (RTI) support, a rigorous STEAM/Project-Based Learning (PBL) instructional model, and a robust College and Career Readiness program. Position Summary
The school social worker acts as a liaison between the school, home, and community to support the attendance, social-emotional, and academic needs of students. School social workers provide support services and connect students and families to resources to improve educational outcomes.
Key Responsibilities
- Organizes programs for students, parents and staff pertaining to child abuse, resource development, and educational issues.
- Acts as a liaison between students and Drew Charter School by administering conferences, home visits, and additional support services
- Interviews students and relatives to obtain the student's historical information regarding medical, social, and emotional conditions as needed
- Maintains and updates records to ensure accurate information is documented
- Utilizes student data to assess, implement, and evaluate social work interventions
- Contacts state and local authorities for child abuse issues, student behavior problems, and any criminal activities concerning the student.
- Ensures students identified as homeless receive educational supports in accordance with the McKinney Vento Homeless Act
- Collaborates with all stakeholders to support the educational needs of students identified as homeless
- Monitors Go Guardian alerts and ensure appropriate interventions are completed
- Conducts crisis assessments
- Coordinates mental health crisis response
- Serves as member of Drew Crisis Response Team
- Supports district Crisis Response Team when appropriate
- Serves as staff liaison for Drew Moms and Drew Dads parent groups helping support the programming/events
- Leads and supports “Say Something” program
- Assess student needs and partner with Drew Opportunity Fund as needed
- Completes necessary paperwork to ensure funds are allocated
- Liaisons with PTA Eagle Giving Tree program other school wide support initiatives
- Creates new and maintains existing community partnerships (East Lake Healthy Connections, VOEL Community Liaisons, etc.)
- Serves as liaison with outside counseling providers (Pathways, Chris 180, etc.)
- Supports Pre-K-12 Attendance interventions
- Supports Attendance Specialist by developing strategies to improve school wide attendance
- Supports school enrollment team by conducting home visits as needed
- Conducts presentations to families and stakeholders centered on mental health
- Partners with Drew's Behavioral Health Clinician to address student needs
- Attends workshops and seminars to continue to improve skills and learn about current issues affecting students.
- Conducts individual counseling support to students
- Serves as active member of the Pre-K-12 Counseling and Wellness Team
- Complies with the Code of Ethics for Educators adopted by the Georgia Professional Standards Commission and the Code of Ethics for Social Workers adopted by the National Association of Social Workers
- Performs other duties as assigned by an appropriate administrator or their representative.
Qualifications
- Master’s Degree in Social Work from a Council on Social Work Education (CSWE) accredited program
Work Experience
- 2 years of work experience as a Social Worker preferred.
- School social work experience preferred.
Certification/Licensure
- Must hold or be eligible for certification as a School Social Worker
- State of Georgia Level 5 Certification in Social Work
- Valid driver's license and availability of private transportation.
Knowledge/Skills/Abilities
- Knowledge of norms of behavior at stages in a child's growth and development as affected by chronological age
- Knowledge of laws which affect children such as child labor, guardianship, custody, and compulsory school attendance
- Must be willing to take legal action if necessary to assist students and families
- Ability to develop and maintain good relationships with community agencies
- Must be able to successfully manage multiple tasks, projects, and responsibilities
- Ability to apply critical thinking skills in rendering solutions to various issues
- Must be able to collaborate effectively with multiple stakeholders, the general public, and work with diverse groups of people
- Excellent communication skills both written and verbal
Compensation
- Salary Range: $82,927 - $113,726
- Work Days: 242 (Annual)
