Immediate opening for Medical Front Desk Specialist for an Internal Medicine Practice located within Huguley Medical Campus. Medical Front DeskSpecialist will provide excellent reliable and competent administrative support to the physician. Success in this position requires an excellent command of the English language, enhanced ability to organize work, Ability to work alone on the assigned task, superior customer service skills, and strong general office skills. The position also requires working closely with the physician and the administrative office to ensure proper patient care.
The work schedule may be 7:30 AM - 12 PM & 1 – 5:00 PM (Monday –Wednesday), 8:30 AM - 12 PM & 2 - 6 PM (Thursday), and 8:00 AM – 1 PM (Friday). The work schedule is subject to change.
Major Duties/Responsibilities:
- Greets, instructs and directs patients and visitors.
- Collect copays and account balances; check-in and Check-out patients; and verify, update, and file necessary information in patient charts.
- Answer incoming telephone calls, screen calls, route calls appropriately, take non-emergent messages, and assist callers with information.
- Check messages recorded on the office telephone answering machine upon opening (and after mid-day breaks if the office had been closed), and post notes about all calls to the physician, the office manager, or appropriate personnel.
- Conduct patient callbacks.
- Call late or no-show patients and patients behind in payments as directed by the physician and the office manager.
- Make appointment reminder calls to confirm appointments
- Serves as a liaison between the patient and medical support staff.
- Verifies eligibility/benefits and insurance coverage (using a phone, fax, or website), including referrals, if required.
- Verify 25-40 patients per day, along with new patient appointments.
- Assist in the appeal and collecting on insurance claims including HMO/PPO/Medicare claims.
- Process HMO/PPO/Medicare correspondence, appeals, and insurance forms.
- Follow-up with insurance companies to ensure that claims are paid.
- Maintain fax logs and phone logs for insurance reference.
- Type reports, correspondence, and dictations as directed by the providers and the office manager.
- Perform other clerical and administrative duties as assigned by the physician or practice administrator
- Assist in checking in patients, verify updates, and input necessary information into patient charts or accounts.
- Assist in scheduling patient appointments, post charges and receive cash payments, as needed.
- Assist Medical Assistants or Physician in rooming patients, when needed
- Assist in keeping the office clean.
- Represents Clinic in a professional manner. Treat all customers courteously and cooperatively.
- Maintain confidentiality of all patient healthcare information.
- Notify the administrator of any situation that may adversely affect the company.
- Performs other duties as assigned by the Supervisor, Practice Administrator, or Physician.
Skills/Experience:
- General office skills and excellent computer/data entry skills.
- Demonstrated exceptional customer service skills.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- A demonstrated ability to handle multiple telephone lines and tasks.
- Experience working with practice management and electronic medical record applications
- Familiarity with using the Internet to solve business problems (surfing, searching, etc).
- Ability to use email to communicate with patients, insurance companies, and vendors.
- Ability and willingness to be trained in medical office procedures such as EKG, ABI, NCV, etc.
- Must type at least 45 WPM accurately
- Demonstrated exceptional customer service skills.
- Experience in interacting with insurance companies to resolve billing issues.
- Familiarity with office practice clerical functions such as document filing, inputting messages, and telephone interaction with patients and other third parties.
- Understanding of the insurance claims process, working knowledge of managed care, HMO, and PPO benefits and concepts.
- Ability to work as part of a team dedicated to giving excellent customer service.
- Some business/secretarial or billing training beyond the high school level is a plus, but not required

Pay: $16.00 - $18.00 per hour
Expected hours: No more than 40 per week
