Job Title: Technical Theater Director
Classification: Full-time, Exempt
Reports to: Director of High School
The Adelson School is looking for dedicated educators to join our staff for the 2024-2025 school year. The Adelson School seeks an experienced Technical Theater Director to manage and coordinate the daily technical operations of The Adelson School theater and to provide education in Stagecraft.
Responsibilities:
- Instructs high school students in Stagecraft course(s) formatted to provide technical needs for the year’s productions. Guides students through set construction and lighting and sound design.
- Coordinates student involvement in behind-the-scenes positions for The Adelson School Theater.
- Co-coordinates (with the Performing Arts Team) the annual production budgets.
- Manages the calendar for The Adelson Theater; coordinates in-house events and outside rentals and makes the calendar accessible to all who need it.
- Responsible for daily school theater operations.
- Schedules, coordinates, and supervises theater use by the school community and the public.
- Assists the Performing Arts team in event planning.
- Responsible for all technical aspects of The Adelson School theatrical productions.
- Responsible for all technical aspects of The Adelson School presentations.
- Co-coordinates public relations for school-based productions.
- Routinely inspects theater’s technical equipment for maintenance needs, responsible for the performance, maintenance, and upkeep of the theater’s technical equipment.
- Orders supplies and
- equipment for theater usage.
- Follows current safety standards and protocols.
Desired Skill Set:
- Bachelor’s degree of Arts in Theatre preferred.
- Demonstrates knowledge of pedagogical content in the areas of lighting, sound, set construction, prop coordination, and production.
- Demonstrates understanding and ability to teach students with multiple learning styles.
- Demonstrates the ability to work in a setting with diverse populations.
- Has experience and ability in other various aspects of theatre including costuming, make-up, and marketing.
- Engages with students using 21st century technology and teaching strategies.
- Experience and familiarity with a variety of lighting and sound equipment, power tools, and operating motorized lifts.
- Ability to collaborate with a variety of personalities.
- Adheres to The Adelson School responsibilities found in the employee handbook.
Physical Demands:
Must be physically able to successfully perform the essential functions of the position. This includes the ability to climb, crawl, balance, and carry materials up to 50 lbs.
