SALEM Engineering Group, Inc.a multi-disciplined consulting firm providing services in Geotechnical, Environmental, Forensic Engineering; Engineering Geology, Construction Inspection and Materials Testing is seeking a Field Engineer for our Geotechnical Engineering Services Department in Fresno, California. This position requires a dynamic individual looking for a career in Geotechnical Engineering. Reporting to the Geotechnical Department Manager, the Field Engineer will be responsible for leading teams through an entire project lifecycle. Working well in a fast-paced, team-oriented environment is a must.
Role and Responsibilities
- Manage geotechnical field investigations: This includes scheduling field work for specific scopes of work provided by senior management, executing field work, and understanding health and safety issues associated with the work, geotechnical drilling and sampling, visual field reconnaissance, and soil and rock logging.
- Perform engineering analyses using hand and computer based tools under senior direction.
- Perform construction observation services under senior direction. This work includesobservation and documentation of geotechnical construction activities, performing in-situ density testing of engineered fill, and observation and testing of other geotechnical construction.
- Assist with the preparation of technical reports, including writing sections of reports, preparing figures and tables, and working with drafting and reproduction staff to produce final reports under senior direction/supervision.
- Engaging in geotechnical engineering assessments, analyses, and designs.
- Specific analyses may include slope stability, liquefaction potential, allowable bearing capacity, foundation settlement, and design of pile foundations.
- Performing other engineering activities as directed.
Qualifications and Education Requirements
- Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering with concentration in geotechnical services, preferred.
- 2-5 years of hands on experience in the Geotechnical field, preferred.
- Strong analytical skills, communication skills and a solid understanding of soil mechanics.
- A quick learner, enthusiastic, proactive and responsive.
- Competence in MS Office Suite (Word, Excel, and PowerPoint) for presentation of written work is necessary.
- A clean driving record.
- Initiative to understand the purpose of individual tasks and how they relate to overall project objectives.
- Experience with Aggregates, Asphalt, Concrete, and Soils (ASTM and C-DOT Procedures).
Additional Notes
- Work requires a lot of travel in various site conditions and project locations.
Job Type: Full-time
Pay: $20.00 - $22.00 per hour
