Scope and Responsibility’s:
The Lifeguard II works under the direction of the Aquatics Director and Assistant Aquatics Director and is responsible for ensuring the safety of facility patrons by preventing and responding to emergencies.
Duties
· Thorough knowledge and application of lifeguarding surveillance and rescue techniques
· Recognize and respond effectively in emergencies.
· Enforce all aquatic facility policies, rules, and regulations.
· Inspect the facility on a daily schedule and report any unsafe conditions or equipment to the supervisor.
· Complete records and reports. (i.e. chemical logs, tally sheets, daily checklists)
· Complete all duties on the task list (Primary/ secondary)
· Test and record chemicals in log book (At least 2X a day)
· Collect and keep track of all money and pool passes
· Wear uniform (Hip pack, assigned clothing, whistle, etc.)
· While in stand scan and cover appointed areas
· Sit in guard stand with your rescue tube in your lap, strap on, with a whistle or Roam pool Deck w/ tube; must be able to stay attentive for long periods of time
· Participate in regular in-service training sessions.
· Public relations skills. (customer service)
· Exercise regularly to maintain fitness level (strength and endurance).
· Keep Aquatics Director up to date on all relevant issues and situations.
· Responsible to follow all policies and procedures and outlined in the Hilton Head Island Recreation Association Personnel Manual.
· Maintain a positive working relationship with fellow staff and members of all ages and background.
· Show initiative in special projects (i.e. dome, events)
· Able communicator; can exhibit communication skills with peers and/or supervisor when necessary
· Sling; accept responsibility for shifts
Swim Instructor:
· Takes on Private swim lessons
o Take initiative to run private lessons (i.e., schedule, manage, teach lessons, and build retention.)
· Takes on group swim lessons
· Has telephone skills
· Well organized
· Can follow, write, and organize lesson plans
· Keep Assistant Aquatics Director up to date on all relevant issues and situations pertaining to lessons.
Certifications:
American Red Cross (or equivalent):
· Lifeguard Certification
· WSI
· Pre-employment testing of lifeguarding skills and knowledge
Salary / Benefits:
· $15-$20 an hour
