The primary purpose of the Grant Administrator position is to assure the conduct and administration of federal and nonfederal sponsored projects in compliance with federal, state and private agency rules and regulations. Counsels and assists researchers and other administrative staff regarding proposal preparation, interpretation of sponsor guidelines and regulations, and problem resolution, and acts as liaison with funding agencies.
KEY FUNCTIONS:
Grant Review and Administration:
Reviews grant applications and budget proposals for accuracy and completeness, and ensures compliance with sponsor, MDACC, state, and federal policies and regulations. Verifies compliance prior to establishing awards; implements and interprets policies and regulations for allowable costs and cost sharing. Organizes and triages proposals in conjunction with research team to effectively support grants and contract proposals and related post award business functions. Reviews the ongoing administration of grants in assigned portfolio to assure compliance; works with faculty and staff to review and monitor existing grants. Assists in submitting accurate electronic proposals using various sponsor-developed systems, such as Grants.gov, NSF FastLane, the NIH Commons, and CDMRP/DOD Army grants. Assists in accurately building and maintaining the institutional database by ensuring accurate pre-award data and interpreting various complex award documentation.
Liaison between funding agencies and Departments to achieve compliant grant applications: Interacts with departments and Principal Investigators regarding administrative, budgetary and compliance requirements. Acts as liaison with funding agencies. Counsels and assists researchers and other administrative staff regarding proposal preparation, interpretation of sponsor guidelines and regulations, and problem resolution. Promotes an environment of trust and encourages open communications to ensure that customers (faculty & staff) are comfortable in seeking input on their grant applications.
Subject matter expert, mentoring, and teamwork: Stays informed regarding various complex and changing regulations and federal guidance as it applies to pre-award and post-award administration of grants and cooperative agreements. Keeps abreast of various e-systems used for submission of proposal applications. Supports colleagues in the OSP team by sharing knowledge, collaborating on applications, and engaging in continuing education opportunities.

EDUCATION:
Required: Bachelor's degree in Business Administration, Accounting or related business field.
EXPERIENCE:
Required: Two years of experience in accounting, research administration, project management or related field OR one year of sponsored programs experience. May substitute required education degree with or equivalent experience on a one to one basis.
