Job Description
Registered Nurse (Addiction & Rehabilitation Agency)
Responsibilities: Under the direct supervision of the Program Manager and Director of Integrated Care, the Registered Nurse (RN) will provide services to clients in a residential treatment facility specializing in caring for clients experiencing substance use disorders (SUDs), detoxification needs, and mental health challenges. The RN will play a critical role in providing comprehensive nursing care, administering medications, and supporting clients through the recovery process.
Job Duties:
- Provide comprehensive nursing care to individuals with mental health and substance use disorders in a residential setting.
- Conduct thorough assessments of patients upon admission, including physical health, mental status, and substance use history.
- Develop and implement individualized care plans in collaboration with the interdisciplinary team, focusing on detoxification and stabilization.
- Administer medications and treatments as prescribed by healthcare providers, adhering to established protocols and safety guidelines.
- Administration of medication for addiction treatment - MAT
- Monitor patients closely for signs of withdrawal symptoms and adverse reactions to medications, intervening promptly as needed.
- Educate patients and their families about the nature of addiction, recovery strategies, and medication management.
- Document all patient assessments, interventions, and outcomes accurately and promptly in the electronic health care system.
- Collaborate with other healthcare professionals, including physicians, counselors, and social workers, to coordinate holistic care.
- Participate in multidisciplinary treatment team meetings to discuss patient progress, treatment goals, and discharge planning.
- Ensure adherence to clinical standards of best practice, licensing regulations, accreditation standards, and other applicable local, state, and federal regulatory requirements.
- Adhere to ethical and legal standards of nursing practice, maintaining confidentiality, and respecting patient rights.
- Stay updated on current trends and best practices in addiction treatment and psychiatric nursing through continuing education and professional development activities.
- Stay updated on evidenced-based practices related to the treatment of substance use disorders (SUDs) and recovery-based services.
- Attend and actively participate in Substance Abuse Prevention and Control (SAPC) related meetings, such as Medical Director meetings and Provider meetings.
- Contribute insights, feedback, and expertise to discussions on treatment protocols, program development, and quality improvement initiatives.
- Collaborate with colleagues to ensure alignment with SAPC guidelines and requirements.
- Other duties as assigned by supervisors.
Qualifications:
- Specialty training in special populations including HIV/AIDS, substance abuse and/or mental health, MAT – Medication for Addiction Treatment and Psychiatric medications preferred.
- Current and Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in the state of California.
- Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) preferred.
- Minimum of one year of experience working in detoxification programs or similar settings.
- Experience working with individuals with co-occurring mental health and substance use disorders.
- Proficiency in using electronic health record (EHR) systems for documentation.
- Knowledge of Drug Medi-Cal regulations and billing procedures is an asset.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to work effectively within a multidisciplinary team.
- Compassionate and nonjudgmental attitude towards individuals with substance use disorders.
- Ability to remain calm and composed in high-stress situations.
- Current certification in Basic Life Support (BLS) and Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) preferred.
- Must maintain CPR / First Aide Certification, and provide yearly physical exam, including Tuberculosis test results.
