Lake Forest High School is seeking an Athletic Trainer to join a dynamic team that services the athletic programs for District 115.
Benefits
- Starting Rate - $30 - $37/Hour
- Salary - Athletic Trainers are salaried employees based off the starting rate for 195 work days and 11 paid holidays at 8 hours/day. Additional work days (typically 15-25 per year) are paid at their per diem rate
- Calendar - from August through the 1st week of June
- Additional Opportunities - the three athletic trainers have the first right of refusal to work the district's summer camps in June and July, a total of approximately 360 additional hours at $53.51/hour
- Reimbursement - up to $2500 annually for professional certifications and licenses, up to $1300 annually for tuition reimbursement
- Insurance - 100% district paid Single HMO Health (other options also available)
- Retirement - IMRF (Illinois Municipal Retirement Fund) - the district pays the full district premium, employees pay the 4.5% employee contribution
Description
The Athletic Trainer is a healthcare professional who renders service or treatment, under the direction of, or in collaboration with a physician, in accordance with their education and training and the states' statutes, rules and regulations. Services provided by Athletic Trainers include injury and illness prevention, wellness promotion and education, emergent care, examination and clinical diagnosis, therapeutic intervention, and rehabilitation of injuries and medical conditions.
Education, Experience, and Licensure
- Master’s Degree, preferred
- Valid ATC Certification:
- Certified by the Board of Certification for the Athletic Trainer
- Licensed by the Illinois Department of Financial & Professional Regulation
- Concussion Certified (ImPACT, or other accepted training)
- Experience with office and school-based management systems - preferred

Essential Functions
- Provides athletic injury evaluation, treatment, and preventive measures within the scope of the Illinois Athletic Trainers’ Practice Act
- Provides appropriate acute care for athletic injuries occurring while covering events
- Arranges for appropriate physician evaluation & diagnosis
- Provides or coordinates follow-up treatment and rehabilitation as necessary
- Counsels and advises athletes on health related issues including nutritional, substance abuse
- Be available at:
- East Campus Monday through Friday from approximately 10:30 a.m. to 6:30 p.m. or until athletic events are complete
- West Campus Monday through Friday from approximately 3:30 PM - 6:30 PM or until athletic events are complete
- Saturday home event coverage at either campus
- All home events for contact and collision sports at East or West Campus
- Away varsity football games only if home events are covered
- Ensures that adequate coverage is provided to other contests through coverage by another ATC or paramedical personnel or by ensuring that adequate supplies and instructions are provided for the LFHS coaching staff to obtain emergency medical care
- Notifies parents of injured athletes and provides appropriate advice for follow-up care
- Follows and updates the Lake Forest High School Athletic Injuries Handbook for Coaches and Emergency Procedures at Athletic Campus/East Campus/While Off Campus to ensure appropriate medical and administrative procedures are followed
- Maintains budgets and place orders to provide for appropriate inventory of athletic training/medical supplies and equipment as approved by the Athletic Director
- Coordinates with team physician for home football coverage and clinic hours
- Maintains adequate medical records on injuries, rehabilitation, wrestling weight management, etc
- Abides by FERPA and HIPAA guidelines regarding medical care and student records
- Attends continuing education programs to maintain a high level of current professional knowledge and competence as required by law and Board of Certification standards
- Provides in-service training and programs to LFHS coaching staff upon request
- Conducts seasonal checks of AEDs in all Athletic Department areas replace batteries and electrodes as indicated, and arrange for maintenance if any problems are found
- Manages concussion program as mandated by state law and Board of Education policy
- Attends annual meetings of the Concussion Oversight Team (COT) to review previous year’s experiences, and suggest appropriate changes to LFHS Return-to-learn and Return-to-play protocols for the upcoming year
- Schedules & conducts ImPact baseline testing sessions for all teams
- Evaluates and manages all concussions of Lake Forest athletes that occur
- Communicates with parents, physicians, nurses, coaches, teachers, counselors and deans to provide appropriate accommodations
- Enters concussion data into tracking spreadsheet, ensuring that all concussions are managed according to BOE approved procedures, progresses athletes through the RTP protocol, and coordinates with certified staff surrounding the RTL protocols and necessary accommodations
- Submits reports to IHSA monthly via the IHSA website
- Adheres to all IHSA terms and conditions
- Performs other job related duties as assigned by direct supervisor
- Adheres to Board of Education policies and procedures
Physical Demands
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit, stand, walk, talk, hear, reach,grasp, feel, climb, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl, push, pull, and lift. Repetitive motions are required. The employee must lift and/or move up to 100 pounds of force occasionally, 50 pounds or more of force frequently, and up to 20 pounds of force constantly. Specific vision abilities required for this job include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
Work Environment
