The Rosen JCC Early Childhood learning Center is currently looking for VPK Lead Teachers to work with infants through preschool age children.
We are seeking individuals with the following experience, education, and skills to serve as Teachers in our program:
Job Summary: Responsible as Lead Teacher with daily activities; supervising, nurturing, and giving guidance to a group of children. The Assistant Teacher takes responsibility for the classroom and the children when the Lead Teacher is absent.
Educational Responsibilities: Child Development Associate Certification or waiver and completed PreK courses
Required Certifications/ Training:
- DCF 45 hours state mandated early childhood training or working towards hours
- First course and competency test must be completed within the first 30 days of employment.
- All required courses and associated competency test must be completed within the first 90 days of employment and certificates provided to the ECLC Coordinator for your employee file.
Language Skills: Ability to communicate in a positive and effective manner with children, parents and other staff in English. Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions and procedures in English. Ability to effectively present information in one-to-one and small group settings in English.
Mathematical Skills: Ability to work with numbers for example, add, subtract, multiply and divide. Teacher must have the ability to compute ratios.
Duties and Responsibilities Continued:
- Maintain the classroom in a healthy and organized manner according to Accreditation, Health Department, Fire Marshall, and Department of Children and Families guidelines.
- Immediately notify the ECLC Coordinator/or Supervisor if there are items that should be repaired or replaced for safety reasons via email request.
- Serve as playground monitor while engaging in play with the children.
- Practice Universal Precautions at all times.
- Maintain an updated list of children’s allergies in the classroom.
- Ensure incidents/accident reports are completed whenever an accident or injury occurs to children in the Brightwheel app. Notify Supervisor of injury, contact parent via Brightwheel app, and notify ECLC Office Manager for record keeping.
- Follow the daily schedule and routine.
- Assist with general classroom duties; planning and preparing the learning environment/ playground according to weekly lesson plans or plan of care. Assist with snack preparation, feeding children, toileting/diapering, cot set up, general cleanup and classroom organization.
- Assist in implementing the classroom education program in accordance with the Center policy and developmentally appropriate practice.
- Perform assessments/observations on children as required.
- Assist in implementing appropriate goals and activities.
- Assist in following through with tasks and assignments with children.
- Respond to classroom emergencies appropriately.
- Greet parents and children daily and provide excellent customer service. Foster and maintain positive relationships with families.
- The first teacher to arrive must set up classroom to welcome students and parents upon arrival. This includes different centers set up on tables and on the carpet area, and appropriate music creating a welcoming environment.
- Actively participate in staff meetings, center functions, and training as required. Teachers are responsible for any costs associated with their annual training if unable to attend JCC offered meetings/training opportunities.
- Attend annual Parent/Teacher Conferences.
- Maintain a professional image in your dress and interactions with everyone you engage with while at the JCC Campus
