Aaron School is a private special education school in Manhattan that provides integrated academic, enrichment, and therapeutic services to students with learning differences, with the goal of enabling them to become confident and successful learners. Aaron School is seeking an Assistant Teacher at its 30th Street location (High School division). Offering an academically rigorous curriculum aligned with the New York State Learning Standards, Aaron employs an individualized approach to ensure student achievement while preparing them for post-secondary educational experiences and professional careers.
Salary range $40,000 to $42,000 (10-month position)
RESPONSIBILITIES | WHAT YOU'LL BE DOING
- Participate in curriculum planning under the guidance and direction of the Head Teacher
- Implement plans concerning the daily and weekly schedule of individual and group activities for the students
- Prepare and teach reading and math groups; write narrative reports and complete report cards
- Be knowledgeable about all school-wide academic programs used in the school
- Submit weekly lesson plans to Supervisor and meet weekly to review
- Establish classroom schedule, jobs and meeting board
- Share responsibility for the classroom environment, preparation of materials, clean up, organization of snacks and lunch
- Develop skills working with individual students, small groups and the entire class
- Implement and reinforce classroom rules for behavior and procedure
- Interact, initiate and encourage students in activities during the day to facilitate self-reliance, language and social skills, and intellectual growth
- Work cooperatively with teaching team and the entire staff
- Assist in record keeping, assessment, daily attendance
- Attend parent conferences, team meetings, curriculum night, and professional development seminars
- Participate in pre and post observation with your supervisor to reflect on your teaching
QUALIFICATIONS | WHAT YOU BRING
- Bachelor’s Degree required
- Special Education teaching experience preferred
