Job Description: Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) - Medical Rehabilitation Unit
Overview: We are seeking a highly skilled Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) with specialized experience in medical rehabilitation, particularly in the care of patients recovering from traumatic brain injuries (TBI). The ideal candidate will have a strong background in neurological care, including work in neurology units and intensive care units (ICUs). This role requires compassion, adaptability, and a commitment to providing exceptional patient care in a rehabilitation setting.
Responsibilities:
- Provide direct patient care under the supervision of registered nurses in a private home.
- Assist patients with activities of daily living (ADLs) such as bathing, grooming, dressing, and feeding, ensuring their comfort and dignity.
- Monitor and record patient vital signs, including temperature, blood pressure, pulse, and respiration.
- Assist in the implementation of patient care plans, including therapeutic activities and exercises prescribed by rehabilitation specialists.
- Observe and report any changes in patients' conditions to the nursing and medical staff promptly.
- Collaborate with the healthcare team to ensure coordinated and comprehensive patient care.
- Follow infection control protocols and maintain a clean and safe environment for patients.
- Provide emotional support and companionship to patients and their families during the rehabilitation process.
- Utilize proper lifting techniques, such as using mechanical lifts or body mechanics, to safely transfer and move patients. Must be able to lift at least 50 lbs.
- Turn and reposition patients using appropriate techniques to prevent pressure ulcers and discomfort, ensuring patient comfort and safety.
- Experience with managing patients who have a tracheotomy and a G-tube, including knowledge of care protocols and assisting with maintenance.
Requirements:
- Valid Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) certification/license in the state of [state name].
- Minimum 5 years of experience working in a medical rehabilitation unit, preferably with a focus on traumatic brain injuries.
- Previous experience in neurology units and/or ICUs is highly desirable.
- COVID-19 vaccinated.
- Knowledge of medical terminology and basic healthcare practices.
- Ability to lift at least 50 lbs as part of patient care duties using proper techniques.
- Experience with proper lifting techniques and turning patients using appropriate methods.
- Experience working with patients who have a tracheotomy and a G-tube.
- Ability to pass a background check.
- Ability to prioritize tasks and manage time effectively in a fast-paced environment.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to interact compassionately and effectively with patients and their families.
- Ability to work both independently and as part of a team, demonstrating professionalism and integrity at all times.
- Flexibility to work rotating shifts, including nights, weekends, and holidays as needed.
