General Description:
This classification conducts various routine and semi-skilled maintenance tasks at City parks and recreational facilities.
Duties and Responsibilities:
The functions listed below are those that represent the majority of the time spent working in this position. Management may assign additional functions related to the type of work of the position as necessary.

Conducts maintenance and construction tasks for various parks and facilities: resurfaces and renovates playgrounds, fields, and courts; paints buildings, equipment, and parking lots; repairs and assembles fences; conducts light plumbing.

Operates or uses various equipment, power tools, hand tools, and supplies in order to complete work assignments.

Communicates with supervisor, other employees, the public, and other individuals as needed to coordinate work activities, review the status of work, exchange information, or resolve problems.

Conducts a variety of landscaping duties: mows grass; plants flowers and shrubs; weed eats around signs and fence lines; edges curb lines; clears leaves tree limbs and other debris from park areas; spreads and hauls ground cover, dirt, and mulch.

Operates a City vehicle; conducts pre- and post-trip inspections including checking all fluids, gauges, lighting, mirrors, tires, body damage, seats and seatbelts, and cleanliness of assigned vehicle.

Processes a variety of documentation associated with department/division operations within designated timeframes and per established procedures: receives and reviews various documentation including work orders.

Conducts general maintenance tasks necessary to keep machinery, equipment, and tools in operable condition.

Maintains inventory of equipment, parts, and supplies: initiates orders of materials and equipment needed for each job; conducts routine safety inspections on equipment; advises supervisor of needed repairs.

Ensures compliance with all applicable codes, laws, rules, regulations, standards, policies, and procedures: ensures adherence to established safety procedures; monitors work environment and use of safety equipment.

Conducts general custodial duties at various parks and facilities: cleans parks, ball fields, restrooms, kitchens, and other areas; vacuums carpets; scrubs and waxes floors; dusts; washes windows and empties trash.
Additional Functions:

May provide lead guidance and direction to community service workers.

Performs other related duties as required.
Minimum Education and Experience Requirements:
Requires a high school diploma or equivalent; supplemented by one (1) year of experience in grounds keeping, maintenance, custodial or related field; or any equivalent combination of education, training, and experience which provides the requisite knowledge, skills, and abilities for this job.
It requires a valid state driver’s license with an acceptable driving history.
Other certifications may be required upon employment.
