Job Purpose
The Purchasing Agent to ensure the timely and cost-effective procurement of materials essential for electrical construction projects. This role involves sourcing, negotiating, and managing vendor relationships to ensure all purchases meet quality standards and project specifications. The Purchasing Agent is pivotal in reducing costs, overseeing vendor performance, and enhancing the overall efficiency and success of construction operations. Through close collaboration with internal stakeholders, the Purchasing Agent helps ensure projects are completed on time and within budget, adhering to industry standards and safety regulations while aligning purchasing strategies with project requirements and organizational goal
What You'll Do
- Develop and maintain strong relationships with existing vendors to secure favorable terms and conditions.
- Identify and evaluate potential new suppliers to expand the vendor base.
- Negotiate pricing with suppliers, ensuring competitive pricing, quality standards, and delivery schedules.
- Monitor and assess supplier performance, addressing any issues to ensure consistent quality and reliability.
- Source and procure materials and equipment required for electrical construction projects.
- Ensure that all purchases comply with project specifications, quality standards, and budget constraints.
- Maintain accurate and detailed records of all purchasing activities and transactions.
- Work closely with project managers, foreman, general foreman, and other internal stakeholders to understand project requirements and timelines.
- Collaborate with the finance department to ensure timely and accurate processing of purchase orders and invoices.
- Collaborate with vendors to facilitate Return Goods Authorizations (RGAs).
- Develop and implement cost-saving strategies without compromising on quality or project timelines.
- Analyze spending patterns and identify opportunities for cost reduction.
- Consistently acquire bid pricing, top discounts, and lowest prices.
- Ensure all purchasing activities comply with company policies, industry standards, and legal requirements.
- Prepare and present regular reports on procurement activities, vendor performance, and market conditions to management.
- Process material requests by submitting requests to vendors.
- Coordinate deliveries to jobsites and the shop, ensuring accurate and timely delivery of materials.
- Generate monthly reports on quality issues for vendor communication.
- Document and communicate material issues to vendors
- Accountable for leading efforts in implementing continuous improvement initiatives and methodologies to improve processes and increase efficiency.

What You'll Bring
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Minimum of 2 years of procurement experience
- Possess advanced knowledge of procurement software such as Spectrum, MMI/Power Order, and provide training to team members as needed.
- Strong attention to detail and ability to prioritize tasks effectively.
- Ability to work collaboratively in a fast-paced team environment.
- Ability to work in a high stress level environment.
- Ability to make timely and well-informed decisions, considering both short-term and long-term implications.
- Ability to conduct comprehensive cost analysis to identify areas for cost reduction and efficiency improvement.
- Proficient in managing complex procurement projects, including coordinating activities, setting milestones, and ensuring timely delivery.
- Skill in building and maintaining strong relationships with key suppliers to ensure a reliable and efficient supply chain and commodity partner agreements.
