The Role + Purpose:

Fabric Research and Development
-
Support all seasonal yarn research and development.
-
Own all yarn developments with Design’s partnership.
-
Partner closely with Sourcing to understand the annual and seasonal vendor strategy.

Create seasonal yarn concept boards with brand appropriate direction.
-
Monitor and adhere to development targets and track yarn adoption.
-
Attend local fabric shows and travel internationally to select yarn shows and mills as needed.

Partner with Sourcing for all yarn risk assessment and testing protocols.

Costing and Commercialization
-
Identify opportunities for yarn platforming and monitor yarn platform usage.
-
Leverage yarns between genders and cross brands for cost savings and minimum needs.
-
Conduct counter costing, counter sourcing and support cost negotiations for select yarns.

Sample Yardage Management
-
Manage sample yarn ordering process and ensure milestone and timeline adherence.

Track receipt and organization of all yarn orders.
-
Ensure timely delivery of yarn orders to suppliers.

Partner with the sustainability team to learn, adhere to and manage all sustainability goals.

Update all annual certifications.

Partner with the HK office on JCG’s transparency and traceability adherence.

Fabric Library
-
Responsible for maintenance of yarn library with support of Yarn Coordinator.

Ensure documentation in PLM system is completed and regularly maintained.

Documentation and Tracking

Partner closely with the Sourcing team on all Yarn Specifications.

Monitor yarn submits and approval to ensure quality expectations and design aesthetic are met.

Monitor yarn liabilities: develop creative solutions to utilize, reduce or avoid potential liabilities.

General Management
-
Oversee yarn coordinator and follow up on their day-to-day responsibilities.

Provide guidance and share knowledge with the yarn coordinator.

Trouble shoot issues with cross functional partners and mills.

Maintain alignment with cross functional teams to meet objectives and milestones.

Participate in mill assessment, providing qualitative and quantitative feedback and identify gaps and redundancies in mill base.
Qualifications:
-
Degree in Textile Design or Textile Engineering or related study preferred.

Minimum of 5 years of experience in a Yarn role
-
Strong knowledge of yarn, knitting, and sweater construction with an understanding of Madewell’s aesthetic

Experience with managing a direct report.

Strong analytical and computer skills (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, PLM)

Strong communication skills with the ability to build alignment and partnerships with cross functional teams and mills.

A detail-oriented, organized problem solver

Ability to work well under pressure, operate with a sense of urgency, meet deadlines and multitask.

Salary Range: $72,500.00 - $87,000.00

The base salary offered will take into account internal equity and may vary depending on the candidate’s geographic region of work premises, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience among other factors. The base salary is just one component of J.Crew Group’s competitive total rewards strategy that also includes the opportunity for bonus, competitive benefits and perks.
