Qualifications
- Understanding of procurement, logistics, inventory management, marketing, accounting and financial management practices
- A successful candidate for this position will possess excellent time management, outstanding problem-solving abilities, strong analytical skills and the ability to make fact based decisions
- Minimum of 2 years of buying experience in grocery stores, wholesalers, distributors, or other relevant purchasing experience
- Minimum of 2 years of experience in replenishment buying, allocation planning, or inventory management
- Candidates must have strong negotiation skills and prior vendor management experience.
- Written and verbal communication skills as well as interpersonal skills to develop and maintain effective business relationships both internally and externally
- Ability to concentrate and deal with frequent interruptions
- Proficiency with the Microsoft Office Suite, especially Excel, is required.
Responsibilities
- In this role, you will collaborate with vendors and internal teams to ensure efficient product flow from vendors to warehouses to stores.
- The Buyer will be responsible for creating, managing, and directing purchase orders weekly to ensure timely product arrivals at all warehouse locations.
- Manage and communicate out-of-stock positions or other product updates within their assigned category.
- Oversee inventory levels (e.g., Days/Weeks of Supply) at each warehouse.
- Work with Category and Buying Managers to plan and project expected inventory needs
- Maintain weekly fill rates to ensure we receive the necessary volumes to support unit economics
- Collaborate with other departments to resolve any shipment or cost discrepancies.
- Order products to meet forecasted demand
- Obtain best possible product costs, quality and service at all times and ensure that established policies and procedures are understood and adhered to
- Review acquisition costs to ensure items purchased are at the lowest cost consistent with considerations of quality, reliability of source, and urgency of need
- Conduct promotional reviews
- Review and analyze daily and weekly reports to monitor costs, quality, service level, inventory turns, and distress and make adjustments as needed
