Trained Medication Aide
Day shift | Full-time | 7am - 3pm
Evening shift | Part-time | 3pm - 11pm
This position has primary responsibility for medication administration and completing delegated tasks associated with the personal care needs of the residents.
Duties and responsibilities
- Successful completion of the Trained Medication Employee Course.
- Observe medication administration by a supervisory registered nurse (RN) on 2 occasions.
- Be observed performing medication administration by a supervisory RN on at least 4 occasions with 100% accuracy.
- Receives and gives shift report at beginning and end of shift.
- Administer medications to residents.
- Maintain an orderly, clean, and stocked medication cart.
- Documents in the narcotic logbook maintaining accurate narcotic count.
- Demonstrates and documents wasted medications including narcotics following policy & procedure.
- Reorder medications and treatments as needed in PCC from pharmacy.
- Monitor and immediately reports any side effects, adverse reactions, refused medications, or any change in resident condition to the supervising nurse.
- Assists residents with activities of daily living as needed.
- Immediately reports any medication errors to supervising nurse.
- Assists residents with ambulation, in and out of bed or chairs per care plan.
- Responds promptly to emergency call alarm.
- Assists residents with other duties as needed including laundry services, housekeeping, meal services, and social activities.
- Document all medications, treatments, and notes in the electronic medical record (PointClickCare).
- Monitors and documents vital signs and weights in PointClickCare (EMR).
- Follow all infection prevention procedures.
- Follows all medication administration policies & procedures.
- Maintains resident privacy and confidentiality.
The minimum requirements of the position are:
- High school graduate or equivalent
- Successful completion of the Trained Medication Employee Course.
- Proof of a least 1 year of clinical experience in a program OR a health care facility.
- Current Cardiopulmonary resuscitation certification (CPR) and First-Aid Program
Knowledge, Skills and abilities:
- Understand and comply with Resident Rights
- Previous experience working within the senior living community.
- Alzheimer’s disease/dementia care experience preferred.
- Complies with all facility policies and procedures.
- Ability to communicate effectively at a professional level in writing and verbally.
- Is resourceful and willing to satisfy both ordinary and extraordinary needs of prospective residents/families.
- Must be able to interact with other department personnel.
- Must be able to work flexible hours.
- Must be computer literate and be efficient in the use of:
- Electronic Health Records
- Ability to use the internet for research.
