Under the supervision of a registered Pharmacist, the inpatient Pharmacy Technician assists in preparing and distributing sterile and non-sterile medications. The Technician must be skilled in all functions of the department that do not require the professional judgment or activity of the Pharmacist.

Responsibilities:
Operational Functions
-
Prepares and distributes medication products to fulfill medication orders.

Ensures appropriate and adequate medication inventory by restocking, rotating stock, removing expired medications, repackaging medications, and ordering supplies.

Answers the telephone and directs calls to appropriate personnel in a professional and courteous manner.

Accurately compounds sterile and non-sterile products, including chemotherapy and parenteral nutrition, in accordance with facility, state, and federal laws and regulations.

Performs patient billing in the electronic medical record.

Ensures proper medication storage.

Maintains a neat, clean, orderly, and secure department.

Completes all competency and skills assessment requirements.

Participates in and completes pharmacy technician orientation.
Qualifications:
Minimum Requirements

Preferred or Specialized
Not required to perform the essential functions of the position.
High School diploma or GED
At least one (1) year of hospital or retail pharmacy experience.
License(s)/Certification(s):
Registration in good standing with the Iowa Board of Pharmacy
- Valid driver’s license when driving any vehicle for work-related reasons.
Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:
Writes, reads, comprehends, and speaks fluent English.
