Transportation Safety Manager

The Transportation Safety Manager’s responsibilities include managing and owning all transportation safety operations, improvements, efficiencies, training, strategic planning, day-to-day operational oversight, and coaching tasks, and will work within 45 miles of Paris, KY.
Compensation
- Salary is $80,000-$90,000 per year, based on experience
- Quarterly and annual bonuses

Work Schedule
- Monday-Friday
- Typically work during normal business hours.
- Managing drivers over three time zones (EST to PST); some after-hours calls required
- Must be flexible with work schedule
Responsibilities
- Conduct driver orientations, monthly safety meetings, weekly safety messages, audits, and inspections to ensure compliance.
- Ownership of all new driver safety orientation, safety ride-long, accident reviews, remedial safety training, and company-designated driver “coach.”
- Conduct Smith System training for all vehicle operators.
- Responsible for maintaining & filing Driver Vehicle Inspection Reports, Hours of Service, etc.
- Evaluate driver performance, identify corrective action, and implement follow-up assessments and training needs.
- Plan and implement risk management assessment and safety compliance training programs.
- Collaborate with management and outside agencies as the primary contact for emergency response, accidents, incident reports, near-miss reports, and driver road complaints.
- Ensure proper use of electronic equipment and on-board programs in trucks and conduct random audits of reports created by various programs.
- Conduct regular audits and inspections of fleet vehicles to identify and address safety hazards and non-compliance with federal, state, and local regulations.
- Maintain a driver recognition program based on safety, attitude, and performance.
- Develop, implement, and maintain company safety policies and procedures to ensure compliance with FMCSA and DOT regulations.
- Develop, administer, and maintain policies, programs, and procedures to minimize personal injury, automobile, and general liability claims.
- Investigate accidents and incidents to determine root causes and develop strategies for accident risk reduction.
- Maintain accurate records and documentation related to safety and compliance activities, accident reports, and training records.
- Collaborate with internal departments and external stakeholders to promote a culture of safety and compliance throughout the organization.
- Performs routine system and data analysis to identify opportunities for continuous improvement in safety practices, procedures, and technologies and implement changes to enhance safety performance and compliance
Requirements
- Must be a minimum of 21 years old.
- Ability to travel 25% of the time.
- Valid CDL B commercial driver's license or must be willing to obtain upon hire.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to interact effectively with drivers, managers, and regulatory agencies.
- Experience working in direct store distribution and transportation safety fields is preferred.
- Strong computer literacy, including experience with Microsoft Office Suite, GPS systems, DVIR, and other fleet management software.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to interpret complex regulations and implement effective compliance strategies.
- Excellent organization skills, time management, attention to detail, the ability to prioritize and manage multiple tasks and projects, and adherence to timelines and schedules.
- Thrives in a challenging and fast-paced environment.
- Ability to maintain confidentiality and decorum.
- Ability to interact in a team environment and work independently with little to no supervision.
- Thorough knowledge of FMCSA and DOT regulations pertaining to motor carriers.
- Ability to create lesson plans, provide informational instruction, and give constructive feedback to operators to ensure buy-in.
- Have or the ability to acquire Smith System Certification
- Have or the ability to acquire Aubrey Daniels Institute Certification
- Have or the ability to acquire a Certified Transportation Professional designation.
