JOB TITLE: Pre-Production Technical Specialist

REPORTS TO: Technical Manager
PAY RATE: Range: $20 to $35 – Dependent on experience.
JOB TYPE: Full time – On Site – Rotating Shifts – Weekend Working (when required)

General Position Summary:
The Pre-Production Specialist supports both Customer Service and Production Departments. They are responsible for the client files and ensuring these are workable and usable files. They will manipulate all supplied files and alter them to suit print process designated on feasibility.

Responsibilities
- Operate PC computers, running Adobe Creative Suite applications and other graphics programs to produce complex, multiple color jobs.
- Make project layouts for all plate types including Web, Die-cutting, Flexo, and Digital.
- Produce files, proofs, plates and other work to meet/exceed customer standards.
- Maintain accurate records of file versions in accordance with naming conventions and follow Standard Operating Procedures and training standards.
- Receive, manipulate and process customer files.
- Support other departments with in-house graphics need as required.
- Assist Customer Service as required.
- Trouble shoot complex file issues and find solutions to maintain print quality.
- Remain current on latest technologies and software tools.
- Evaluate problems and make initial recommendations for corrective action to supervisor.
- Must work well with others in a team environment.

- Observe company work rules and safety regulations.
- Contributes to team effort by accomplishing related results as needed.
Physical Requirements
- While performing the duties of this job the employee will be located within the Main Office.
- While performing the duties of this job, the employee may be regularly required to stand, sit, talk, hear, reach, stoop, kneel, and use hands and fingers to operate a computer, telephone, and keyboard.
- Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision requirements due to computer work.
- Light to moderate lifting may be required.
- Able to stand for short periods of time, lift up to 50lbs, and work in a non-climate-controlled warehouse.
- High frequency of computer keyboarding
- High frequency of viewing a computer monitor
- While performing the duties of this job, the employee may be regularly required to stand, sit, talk, hear, reach, stoop, kneel, and use hands and fingers to operate a computer, telephone, and keyboard.
- Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision requirements due to computer work.
- Light to moderate lifting may be required.
Specific Skills, Competencies, and Qualifications
- Advanced graphic design skills including creating/editing graphics, enhancing/manipulating images, color management, typography and knowledge of layouts.
- Math skills.
- Reading skills – ability to read, analyze, and interpret technical information and procedures.
- Operating knowledge of –
- Adobe CS Illustrator, Photoshop, Esko, and HP Indigo experience a plus.
- How to trap files using different substrates and variety of multiple colors.
- Offset and pressure sensitive label printing methods.
- Critical thinking and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to maintain confidentiality in all aspects of the job.
- Ability to manage multiple tasks with frequent interruptions.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities.
- Communicate, interact and work effectively and cooperatively with all production personnel.
- Must work well with others in a team environment.
Education and/or Experience
- High school diploma or general education degree (GED).
- Prior packaging experience.
- Specialized courses in graphic design and digital prepress.
- Production experience is extremely helpful.
- Combination of education and experience determined by hiring manager.
