We seek a pediatric nurse practitioner who is compassionate and dedicated to the underserved communities in Orange County and Long Beach City. The candidate's duties and responsibilities will be to provide general and preventative care, conduct check-ups, treat illnesses, order lab tests, prescribe medication, and follow up on newborns, children, and adolescents up to the age of 21. The pediatric nurse practitioner will follow the American Academy of Pediatrics for recommendations and routine immunization schedules.
Major Tasks, Duties, and Responsibilities
· Provides medical care to indigent children (age < 21).
· Functions independently to perform age-appropriate history and physical for complex acute, critical, and chronically ill perioperative patients.
· Orders and interprets diagnostic and therapeutic tests relative to patient’s age-specific needs.
· Prescribes appropriate pharmacologic and non-pharmacologic treatment modalities
· Implements interventions to support the patient to regain or maintain physiologic stability, including but not limited to serving in the first assisting role.
· Assists with the provision of surgical care in accordance with facility, state, and federal regulations.
· Monitors the effectiveness of interventions.
· Facilitates the patient’s transition within and between health care settings, e.g. admitting, transferring, and discharging patients.
· Collaborates with multidisciplinary team members by making appropriate referrals.
· Facilitates staff, patient, and family decision-making by providing educational tools.
· Consults with the medical director regarding the work performance of nurse practitioners and nurses.
· Consults training or assist in the training of medical students, interns, residents, nurse practitioners and other related health professionals.
· Coordinates medical care of assigned patients.
· Consults with other staff physicians and para-medical personnel regarding medical management of patients and quality of medical and diagnostic work performed.
· Confers with medical director on management issues.
· Participates in medical and services utilization audits, peer review and quality assurance activities.
· Will participate in rotating coverage for after-hours emergencies by phone.
Prerequisite Qualifications

- Current RN NP license and CPR/BLS
- Minimum 1 year work experience as a Pediatric Nurse Practitioner
- Experience working with clients and staff from diverse socio-economic, ethnic, and cultural backgrounds.
- Ability to travel as needed.
- Bilingual is a plus.
- Pediatric experience is preferred.
- Electronic Health Records experience.
- Able to stand, stoop, bend, squat and reach for purpose of performing job duties such as handling materials stocked on shelves, filing, lifting and assisting in emergency situations. Able to move about the facility. Ability to sit at desk, use keyboard and physically perform job duties.
- Must have valid California driver’s license and liability insurance if driving personal vehicle on business.
- Vision, hearing, manual dexterity and eye-hand coordination must be adequate for performance of job duties.
- Speech must be clear. Good hearing for face-to-face and telephone contact and communication.
