Alarm Technician

Primary Purpose:
Responsible for repair and maintenance of district alarm systems and central station monitoring system.
Qualifications/Skills:
Education/Certification:-
High school diploma or equivalent.
- Two (2) years of electronics training preferred.
- Valid current Class “C” Texas driver’s license.
Special Knowledge/Skills:
- Ability to work in close quarters & heights of approximately 30 or more feet.
- Ability to obtain a Texas Fire Alarm Technician License
- Ability to communicate effectively.
- Proficiency in the use of specialized test and diagnostic equipment, including computer workstations involving Fire Alarm monitoring programs, laptops utilized to download operating programs and trouble shoot control panels of various brands of alarm systems.
- Proficient with Auto Cad for record and construction drawings.
Experience:
- Five (5) or more years experience in repair and installation of commercial alarm systems preferred.
- Installation and repair of access control systems experience.
Major Duties and
Responsibilities:
Maintenance and Repair:-
Repair and maintain alarm systems.
- Program pass codes, zones and location data in alarm panels and central station.
- Assist with repairs and maintenance of fire alarm systems.
- Work with staff on new installations of alarm systems.
- Be familiar with software and programming for all brands of alarm systems in SBISD.
- Update or create specifications for systems or new systems as needed.
- Review drawings from engineers/contractors and correct as needed. Inspect new construction to insure compliance with specifications, code, proper installation and operation.
- Attend continuing education training to be up to date on technology and software.
- Receive and complete work orders. Select material and make time and material estimates.
- Maintain accurate records on material and labor used.
- Maintain an inventory of district owned tools, equipment and materials.
Safety:
- Operate tools and equipment according to established safety procedures.
- Ensure that equipment is in safe operating condition.
- Follow established safety procedures and techniques to perform job duties, including lifting, climbing, etc.
- Correct any unsafe conditions in the work area and report any conditions that are not correctable to a supervisor immediately.
- Perform preventative maintenance on tools and equipment.
- Maintain a clean and organized work area and van.

- Perform other duties as assigned.

- Work with frequent interruptions.
- This position requires regular in-person interaction with the public.

- Continual standing, walking, pushing and pulling.
- Frequent stooping, bending, kneeling and climbing (ladder), moderate lifting and carrying.
Environmental Factors:
- Work for continuous or extended periods exposed to but not limited to the sun, heat, cold, poor weather conditions and/or mechanical rooms with equipment noise.
