General Description:It is the responsibility of the Child Care Assistant to ensure a child care program of the highest quality for both children and their parents. This will be demonstrated by following the standards set forth by the YMCA.
We are looking to hire qualified individuals for the Sanford School District, RSU 57 school district and SAD 60 school district.
Essential Job Duties That Must Be Safely Performed With or Without Reasonable Accommodation:
1. Prepare breakfast and snacks for those children who need them.
2. Manage daily before and after program operations; including input on lesson planning and implementation of activities.
3. Maintain monthly attendance records, which meet licensing requirements.
4. Maintain weekly sign in/out sheets, which meet licensing requirements.
5. Ensure that all school children are on the proper buses.
6. Maintain effective communication skills with YMCA staff, school personnel and parents at all times.
7. Recognize responsibility for the safety of the children at all times.
8. Respect program property ensuring that rooms and areas are kept neat at all times.
9. Participate in child care training and workshops, which meet the state requirements of 40 hours a year.
10. Maintain complete confidentiality of all information obtained on the children in the YMCA programs and all personnel information, including benefits and salary information.
11. Follow all policies in the parent handbook.
12. Perform all other duties as assigned.
Non-essential Job Duties:1. Attend staff meetings as required.
Physical Demands/Hazards:1. The position requires sitting, standing, walking, bending, pushing, and pulling.
2. The position requires contact with members, families, facility staff, and the general public.
3. The employee must regularly lift and /or move up to 30 pounds, and occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.
4. Must be able to lift and carry children up to 50 pounds in weight in a safe manner.
5. Must be able to lift and move tables, chairs, and large equipment (toys) up to 50 pounds.
Required Job Skills:1. Must be able to provide verbal/visual presentations to students.
2. Ability to work independently.
3. Excellent communication skills (written and oral).
4. Proven ability to relate effectively with coworkers, employees, parents and children of varying ages.
5. Represent the YMCA in a professional manner, projecting a positive and encouraging attitude.
Education/Experience:1. Must be a minimum of 17 years old.
2. High school diploma or GED equivalent preferred.
