The Lead Teacher is responsible for fulfilling all of their responsibilities in accordance with the mission and philosophy of the School.
Educational Requirements:
- Bachelor’s Degree in Early Childhood, Elementary Education, or a specific subject area
- Georgia State Teaching Certificate/License or equivalent from another state (preferred)
Essential Requirements, Duties, and Responsibilities:
- Knows the curriculum (subject specific, if applicable) of grade level being taught and of those above and below it
- Effectively uses best practices in teaching and learning to design and deliver instruction
- Presents well-planned lessons and has the ability to shift in the moment with child initiated ideas; ability to apply differentiated teaching methods
- Maintains accurate and comprehensive records of each child’s performance and progress, including the My Learning digital portfolio
- Models appropriate behavior for students and is able to effectively engage children in learning and practicing appropriate behavior
- Understands and supports developmental benchmarks academically, socially, emotionally, and behaviorally
- Uses technology instructionally with an understanding of Apple products, interactive whiteboards, Google docs, and Microsoft products; understands responsible digital citizenship
- Communicates proficiently in oral and written forms to all constituents
- Maintains an organized, pleasant, and inviting learning environment
- Collaborates with team members for effective planning, communication, and implementation, including between base teachers and Specialists
- Collaborates with colleagues and staff to support the school community
- Initiates and actively participates in professional development opportunities
- Participates in associated duties such as carpool, lunch, and recess
- Manages and supports the work and development of Associate Teachers
- Takes initiative to fulfill typical responsibilities and demonstrate willingness to problem solve atypical situations

This is an exempt position, not eligible for overtime, under the Fair Labor Standards Act.
This position reports to the Upper Elementary Division Head.
Work Hours
- Generally, Faculty will work Mondays, Tuesdays and Thursdays 7:40 AM–3:15 PM, Wednesdays 7:40 AM - 4:30 PM, and Fridays 7:40 AM – 2:15 PM. Teachers need to remain with class until the last student leaves.
- Generally, new Faculty will work Mon. and Thursday 7:40 AM–3:15 PM, Tuesdays and Wednesdays 7:40 AM - 4:30 PM, and Fridays 7:40 AM – 2:15 PM. Teachers need to remain with class until the last student leaves.
- Faculty and Staff rotate weekly morning carpool which starts at 7:30 AM and afternoon carpool which lasts a minimum of 30 minutes.
- When necessary, the employee must be flexible in the ability to work more than her/his regular daily or weekly schedule to complete duties and/or be available for parent conversations and consultations.
