Electrical Engineer - PCB Design and Hardware Research
Because this position requires the ability to obtain a security clearance, US Citizenship is mandatory.
The Energy Conversion branch is seeking an electronics engineer to provide printed circuit design, fabrication, and testing support for a number of branch projects. The technician will enable the acceleration of technology development by relieving ARL PIs from routine electronics design and testing tasks and create a higher-throughput design - fabricate - analysis cycle. The specific projects that would be supported are energy-efficient sensors, electronics, and high temperature electronics.
Job Description:
We are seeking a skilled Electrical Engineer with expertise in printed circuit board (PCB) design, building, and testing, as well as experience in designing hardware for RF or mixed signal circuits and analog circuits. The ideal candidate will possess a strong foundation in electrical engineering principles and have the ability to contribute to various stages of product development, from concept to production. While some experience is beneficial, we welcome applications from candidates with a Bachelor's or Master's degree in electrical engineering who are eager to learn and grow in this role.
Tasks/Duties/Responsibilities:
- Design, develop, and test printed circuit boards (PCBs) for a variety of applications, ensuring functionality, reliability, and manufacturability.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to define hardware requirements and specifications based on project objectives.
- Utilize CAD tools such as Altium Designer or Eagle to create schematic designs and PCB layouts.
- Perform circuit simulation, analysis, and optimization to achieve desired performance metrics.
- Prototype and assemble hardware systems for testing and validation, including soldering and rework as necessary.
- Conduct thorough testing and debugging of hardware designs, identifying and resolving issues in a timely manner.
- Participate in design reviews and provide input to improve the overall quality and performance of hardware designs.
- Effectively document and communicate project progress and technical challenges to teams with diverse technical backgrounds
- Follow standard operating procedures (SOPs) and safety protocols to ensure the quality and integrity of the research data and analysis.
Skills and Knowledge:
- Bachelor's or Master's degree in Electrical Engineering or a related field.
- Proficiency in PCB design tools such as Altium Designer, Eagle, or similar software.
- Strong understanding of analog and digital circuit design principles.
- Experience designing hardware for RF or mixed signal circuits is highly desirable.
- Familiarity with simulation tools (e.g., SPICE) and PCB fabrication processes.
- Excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
- Effective communication and collaboration skills in a team environment.
