Position Summary:
The Assistant Professor for Academic Success and Bar Preparation will primarily teach bar preparation courses and workshops as needed and will assist in coordinating and implementing school wide initiatives to improve bar passage. The person in this position may also teach academic success related courses and provide intensive academic and bar exam related counseling to students.
This position requires the ability to identify students’ academic strengths and opportunities and to devise effective instructional approaches and counseling strategies to help students optimize their academic performance and test taking skills.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

The Assistant Professor, Academic Success and Bar Preparation will:

Work with doctrinal faculty and staff to develop and optimize students’ academic performance and implement an effective bar preparation program.

Teach bar preparation and academic success courses and workshops as needed.

Host bar preparation workshops and support graduates during the 10 to 12 weeks prior to the February and July bar examinations.

Create bar preparation materials including bar essay writing assignments, multiple choice practice questions, and related materials.

Conduct conferences with students and/or recent graduates for the purpose of general academic counseling and/or in connection with bar-related tutoring and mentoring.

Engage in social media and other communications describing both academic and bar support programs and services.

Perform other duties as assigned.
Tuition Benefit
After 1 year of continuous full time service, employees are eligible to enroll in STU’s bachelor and master courses, tuition free. The program will cover a maximum timeframe of 125% of credit hours attempted toward the degree program. Employees may enroll in STU’s doctoral program, with a 40% tuition discount, under the same conditions.

Job Qualifications:
Required:

J.D. degree from an ABA accredited law school and strong academic credentials.

Licensed to practice Law in Florida, and in good standing.

A strong interest in legal education and dedication to student success.

Desired:

Proven teaching, interpersonal and counseling skills including class preparation, classroom instruction, and individual student tutoring.

1-3 years of post-graduate legal experience.

Prior law-teaching experience.

Florida Bar Admission within the past 5 years.
