Senior Electronics Technician
Because this position requires the ability to obtain a security clearance, US Citizenship is mandatory.
To support the basic and applied research in the electromagnetic spectrum sciences for Army funded projects. This position fills a need for a quality hands-on Senior Electronics Technician that can design, prototype, and evaluate RF components and assemblies in a dynamic environment where technical requirements may be loosely defined and customer needs may be sudden.
Job Description:
Senior Electronics Technician will accomplish work that is custom to the need at hand for laboratory and field environments of variable climate. Work is performed under general administrative direction with wide latitude for the exercise of independent judgment. The projects that the technician is assigned to are characterized by urgency, priority, or other constraint, creating a need for critical judgment in making major compromises to satisfy the overall technical requirements. In most instances the Technician will have to work independently with limited hard requirements. Methods, techniques and approaches used may be conventional in nature, but are applied in very unique or innovative ways that may push the state-of-the-art. Work may be assigned for the duration of a project/program or as an ongoing area of expertise and responsibility as needs arise.
- Work involves development, design, assembly, characterization, and modeling of components and subsystems (electrical, mechanical, and thermal) within multiple operating regimes throughout the radio spectrum.
- Additional work includes extensive application of state-of-the-art CAD/CAE for printed circuit boards (see notes in Tasks, Duties), analysis, design/development, prototype fabrication at the sub-assembly level and brassboard implementation, and the repair of custom equipment.
- This job requires: (1) the knowledge of the techniques and theories characteristic of electronics such as a knowledge of basic electricity, electromagnetism, and electronic theory, calculus, and elementary physics; (2) the ability to apply that knowledge to duties involved in engineering functions such as design, development, evaluation, testing, installation and maintenance of electronic equipment; and (3) a knowledge of the capabilities, limitations, operations, design characteristics, and functional use of a variety of types and models of electronic equipment and systems.
Tasks/Duties/Responsibilities: Support Electromagnetic Spectrum Sciences (EMSS) Competency aligned R&D programs/projects via:
- Design, and fabricate printed circuit boards using industry standard methods (i.e., Altium, LPKF).
- Design and assemble RF circuits to include drafting cable and RF component layout, soldering connections, creating custom length cabling, creating connector assemblies, conduct minor machining to place stand offs and bolts, and integrating power supplies.
- Repair and rework existing RF circuits to include repairing broken connections, re-seating surface mount components, re-flowing solder, and troubleshooting failure modes.
- CAD modeling of RF circuits and enclosures (i.e, Altium, Solidworks).
- Prepare schematics of all designs and document them in program/project relevant reports that are co-authored with program/project teammates.
- Managing electronics stockroom at Adelphi Laboratory Center.
Skills and Knowledge:
- Techniques and theories characteristic of electronics such as a knowledge of electricity, electromagnetism, electronic circuits, calculus, and elementary physics.
- Skills to design, develop, evaluate, test, install, and maintain electronic equipment.
- Have knowledge of the capabilities, limitations, operations, design characteristics, and functional use of a variety of types and models of electronic equipment and systems; examples of such equipment include digital oscilloscopes, network analyzers, power supplies, signal/function generators, RF amplifiers, RF filters, etc.
Work Experience Desired:
- Experience in designing, prototyping, and evaluating RF components and assemblies at the brassboard level.
- Experience in authoring technical drawings to include electronics schematics and technical reports describing design.
- Experience in conducting work with only limited requirements and in a dynamic environment.
Competitive pay commensurate with education and experience.
The selected candidate will be an employee of General Technical Services LLC (GTS).
US citizenship is mandatory (to obtain the required security clearance). There may be occasional travel. GTS offers company-funded educational support for job-related training. Other benefits include eleven (federal) holidays, a co-funded medical plan, fifteen days of personal time, and a 401(k) investment package.
