Total Fiber Recovery of Chesapeake (TFRC) is a joint venture between Oregon-based Total Fiber Recovery, a subsidiary of Bulk Handling Systems, and the Swedish company CellMark Inc. This new facility will annually produce over 200,000 tons of recycled pulp from mixed paper (MP) and cardboard (OCC).
TFRC is seeking a Process Control Engineer to join the team located in Chesapeake, Virginia.
This position will initially be focused on checkout, commissioning, and startup for the facility. Once startup is completed, this position will be responsible for developing and maintaining systems for monitoring, controlling, and regulating operations to achieve system optimization. This position will also interact heavily with the company's controls' team to ensure proper functionality of the plant control systems.
If you have these qualifications, knowledge, skills, and abilities…
- Associate or 2-year technical degree required; bachelor's degree preferred; military training in instrumentation will be favorably considered
- Minimum of 5 years' experience and high level of proficiency in PLC programming required
- Demonstrated experience in HMI programming required
- Prior experience with Siemens PLC/Ignition HMI systems required
- Experience working in an industrial manufacturing environment required
- Ability to program and troubleshoot AC or DC power inverters/frequency drives
- Can-do attitude and inspire others to do the same
- Excellent interpersonal skills required, including verbal, written, and electronic communication skills
- Ability to read and understand electrical power and control system schematics
- Ability to troubleshoot and solve issues, and use root cause failure analysis to put a permanent solution in place
- Possess strong planning and organizational skills
- Must be able to take calls during non-business hours as needed
- Must be able to work a flexible schedule, including some weekends, as necessary

- Evaluating system efficiency of manufacturing process, instruments, and equipment; troubleshooting and resolving issues
- Identifying needs and optimizing controls
- Assisting electricians/instrumentation personnel in troubleshooting
- Working with the company's controls' supplier to resolve issues, update software, and perform general maintenance
- Utilizing the work order system to record and prioritize work orders as well as help prepare for projects by ordering parts
- Maintaining backups of all PLC/Scada system software and other software needed to run the system
- Assisting in drives' troubleshooting with the controls' supplier group
- Maintaining the electronic tools needed in troubleshooting equipment
- Actively helping the Team Leader in supervising the electrical/instrumentation team members to ensure project completion
- Setting up the system to maintain the health of electronic systems including corrosion
- Helping to maintain inventory and organization of spares via the ERP system and manually
- Identifying and purchasing spare parts
- Collaborating on new projects and upgrades
- Assisting in calibration of sensors, valves, and other electronics
- Using preventative maintenance system to reduce unscheduled downtime
